I have the same Vintage Speed exhaust and would be curious whether this application fits. |

My new one bar design will work with the stock style Vintage speed exhaust. I Thought I have a photo of the setup but I can't find it. It will not work with the lowered bus style. |

I finally got around to fitting your trailer hitch with the VS exhaust! It fits great! Great job.

What motor are you running to pull that trailer? |

Would you happen to have a through the bumper 68 to 71 Bay model picture?
And do you know if that puts the hitch too high?
I have an extra bumper that is a bit reinforced as well that I could use and Keep the original should ever need to change back to stock🙂 |

I Received the Hitch from Jeremy a few weeks ago, finally had a chance to install it on my ‘71 with VS exhaust. It was a 2 beer difficulty level-The hardest part was scraping off the 50 year old factory rustproofing (I put some POR15 on too) then cleaning it out of the bolt holes and tapping them. The hitch fits perfectly and is very sturdy and well finished. I have an 8’ utility trailer I occasionally pull, and was hoping to carry a small dirt bike on the back.
Thanks Jeremy for a great product and follow up. |

^You might want to think about re-indexing your rear spring plates to carry that bike.
I’m 6 years in with my hitch from Jermery. It’s been great, I use it all the time. My Thule bike rack pretty much lives on it and when it’s not I’m towing my 1973 Allstate trailer. It was an excellent purchase! |

I checked out a photo of your trailer Rich, pretty cool. It would only be very occasionally putting the bike on the back, so if I re-indexed the spring plates how would that affect the ride without the bike the rest of the time? |

adding to what Rich already said, the rear shocks are held on by captive nuts that are welded into weak steel. They are near impossible to repair if they rip out. You do not want the rear shocks either bottoming or topping out in any situation, and you do not want any form of shocks or helper springs in the rear that increase the load on that captive nut. Most likely you will need to play with the rear torsion bar tension to find a happy medium.
I pulled a 2000 lb boat with my 1971. Not much power on grades etc., but it was possible. Even so that was only about 120 lbs tongue weight. I also pulled a small camping trailer than only put about 50 lbs tongue weight on the hitch. That motorcycle and carrier is a lot of weight hanging back there - the proverbial tail that wags the dog. You would be better off with a lite trailer for it where only the tongue weight was on the hitch. |

Thanks for the input guys, I just installed new rear sachs/boge shocks a few months ago. I’ll try it around town and see how it feels. If not I have a good utility trailer and the bus has a 1776 set up.
I just removed the dirt bike carrier pic as it leading to mission creep on the thread. There are a few threads on the carrier already, I just wanted to show the hitch mounting. Cheers |
