I have three cars a 32 chevy, and two bugs. One of of the bugs needed to go so i chopped the car up saving the roof. Its chassis was shot badly. So what to hell why not attemp to chop the other. did alot of reading and proceeded to chop. Half way there. Chopped it 4 inches. Enjoy.

Thanks to the vw trends article

You got balls. I would do it if I could. I am not brave enough.

Nice work. Are you going to lower the suspension too?

unclepete Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:45 pm

Im not lowering

aircooled74 Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:55 pm

How old are you? Not lowering?!

Im not really liking the front view. Seems off, where do you guys think i screwed up.

I'll go home and take a closer picture. chop from the sides looks pretty good but from the front it looks awkward

Looks good to me. Now lower the hell out of it in the front, a couple drops on the back..

Get some wheels and you're good to go with style :o

It's on 4x4 status, that's why it looks wrong. it isn't hard to lower a beetle, just dowit.

the rake is good, but way to high and the back tires are too big. I think it looks good from the front, just need to close up the metal and make it all straight.

The picture of the front makes the drivers side look to be chopped a little more than the passenger side -----but that could be an illusion from the angel of where the picture was taken from????

bugninva Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:40 pm

damn guys, the fellow said he's NOT lowering it... it's his car and it looks fine the way it is....sheesh....

OP:... Looks good so far, good work!... the front looks a little odd due to the curvature of the roof... once you piece in the missing metal it will look right...

Thanks for those pics I just learned something from ya ,..

I took a inch by inch square tube 16th thick by 48 inch and pie cut it every 6 inch from the center. so the tube would form a crown. I got a club swapmeet to help out at tommorow so not much more. just place her the crown under the sheet metal to give so support and i put a flat sheet over the roof for "mock up"

Im with the guys above, the chop looks good, but the whole thing kinda looks funny, because everyone is uded to chopped tops, with lowered suspensions. the chopped looks give you a wider, flatter apperence. So having it so high, kinda interferes with the illusion of lowered, the chopped roof is creating. I like it tho. finish the roof, thro a rack on top, and some surf boards, and go to the beach 8)
