Has anyone had success replacing the rear tin and seal behind the doghouse without tearing the carburetion and cooling system out? Any ideas...

It may be possible to install the firewal tin with the fan shroud in place, but I think the challenge will be getting the tin to fit right with the seal. I ended up taking the fan/generator out and reaching through the fan shroud to get the throttle cable and tube lined up. I did not want to remove the shroud becuase I remember trying to install those clips that hold the thermostat flap bracket on with the engine in place (shudder). It really does not take long to remove the carb and intake, and probably will save a great deal of time.

That is most likely what I will do. I better do it right to cut down on the time.

To me it seems easier and quicker to just drop the engine, put on the tin and put the engine back in.

It's EASY removing an intake with the engine in the car!?!? In whose universe???
Maybe with a single port it isn't the hardest thing but if you've got a dual port with the 3 piece manifold, they aren't easy to get off with the engine on an engine stand!

Seriously, just drop the engine, 20 minutes out, 20 minutes in. (time may vary greatly depending upon experience, skill and level of motivation)

You think it is easier to drop the engine that remove the intake? I agree that probably the best way to do this is to drop the engine, but on a ghia (which I assume from the photo we are talking about), removing the intake is not so tough.

I can have the intake off my ghia before I can get the jackstands set and the engine supported (but I do not have an exta-long jack, so it is a two-step operation).
