I just saw this, can't say anything about the quality, except to say the picture shows it as being reinforced. The price is certainly reasonable. Please report back if you buy one.

I'm am in need of a new steering coupler and stumbled across this thread. It looks like CIP1 may have a new option that appears to be higher quality. Does any one have experience with this coupler?

^Did ya read the thread? Lars from Rock Auto is the way to go. Although Wildthings posted another good IAP option from Rock Auto right above your post.
You want a reinforced one. |

I did read it. Since they are out of stock or unavailable everywhere I look. I thought I'd explore other options.
Thanks for your assistance |

Well, what year is your bus? The Lares is unavailable, but it looks like the IAP one is available. |

71.
I did see the IAP option. However there doesn't appear to be any feedback from somebody who's actually purchased it.
Since I'm rolling the dice either way, My question remains... I'd like to know if anyone has tried the one I posted a link to.
They claim it is cloth reinforced as well. |

no experience with the one you reference, but here’s another possibility:

he’s a good guy. easy to deal with. lots of good stuff.
if you need other parts, it makes sense to combine an order for the international shipping. |

Hopefully better than the GERMAN QUALITY FROM C&C U.K version they sell , a couple threads thrown in to the rubber mix
Sadly they don’t have product reviews on their website to point out the crappy products they sell

I would have to sacrifice a coupler from CIP1 and cut it open myself to see if there is sufficient cord in the joint before I would be willing to try one. Too much of what little I have ever bought from them included what they claimed was a high quality steering coupler has been junk. |

I have an oil oldsmobile,it has a metal strap between the bolts on the coupler,it is fastened to one bolt and slips over the second bolt without touching it ,the second bolt is double nut the first nut secures the coupler, the second nut captures the strap without touching it,if the rubber coupler fails the metal strap will allow you to control the vehicle to safely get it off the road.
A quick search shows many cars use such a strap with the rubber coupler.
some with full contact on both bolts, |

| For everyone like me who is wanting to order the Lares 209 and finding it is out of stock, I just spoke with Lares Corp. and there has been an order placed on the part. They expect to have them available to vendors (Rockauto, etc.) in about a month. |

Sweet. Thanks for doing some sleuthing; I was getting tired of paying the markup on Amazon who had it for a few weeks while RA didn't.

The new reproduction from Vewib is excellent. Very stiff, reinforced properly. Not sure when this got to market but it's not been available for long. Like all Vewib products, it's a very faithful reproduction of the original part in all respects. It looks to me like the option posted above from BusOK is the same.

Any info on the electrical conductivity problem that has plagued many of these things (only relevant on the earlier bays)? |

We have these on the shelf, how would I test this? Continuity between the metal sleeves and the main rubber portion? |

You don't want continuity between any two adjacent sleeves. |

I used a cheap meter for this, I have a nicer one that is auto-ranging but this one allowed selecting the range so the numbers make more sense without having to read the little letters after the number. On this meter “1“ is infinity.
VEWIB: ~650ohm (others will know better, but I think it's OK in a 12v circuit?)
VEWIB - Note scale on meter is now 200 Ohm
The rest of the “good“ ones are infinity Ohm.
Original
OEM Germany (SGF Brand - was available from VW until ~10 years ago)
Kafer Brand is bad, almost 0 Ohm
