I love the idea of all copper fuel line, fittings and all. Smells of "leakproof" engine compartment. Why did vw do away with that style connections and went to the freeway fire style rubber hose? Wife is diggin that copper coil too

Unless you see this Bus in person, you cannot understand how awesome it looks. Photos don't do it justice.

Great information so far Greg, looking forward to updates.

I looked for the ad in the Soto newsletters and the OBR newsletters and could not find it. If anyone has a complete set of these, and can scan the ad and post it up, I would appreciate it. It should be sometime in 1993 or early 1994.

Thanks Everett. I'm not sure if you noticed, but that is your doublecab in the background so those photos are three years old. Not much has changed, except the shop is a bit cleaner.

I don't know if I am sick or what, but I am looking forward to

Really cool shot. What is the source of that image?

It's a picture of my TV paused from a show chronicling the finding of a '57 airbox Corvette. I don't remember the channel, but I think it was Discovery or Discovery HDT. The westy was in the background of a shot or two or a race in Maryland, only shown for a second or two.

Maybe it was this one?

These images belong to Brian Holcomb. The license plate on the bus is from Michigan. They were both taken on the same weekend, even though the pictures are dated a year apart. My guess is the images got reprinted at some point which is why some are dated '58.

Very great bus Greg.

Would love one day to own a pressed bumper westy bus like this.

Bodywork looks impressive, your thread is now in my bookmark waiting for updates and pictures.

Congrats.

Here are some photos of the bus while Scott McWillie owned it.

That pile of plaid fabric on the bed are the original curtains.

If anyone has any more, please post them up. I know he took it to some SV2's meets while he owned it. It would be cool to see pictures of it at those events.

Scott sold me the bus in 2000 because he was buying a house, and wanted more money to use for the down payment.

Really cool. That looks like the same bus as the one towing the 550. The hitch and plug outlet match, the plates are different though. Where did those pictures come from?

mr white Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:13 pm

DanM Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:21 pm

Awesome! I"ve always wondered about this bus. This is my new favorite thread.

sled Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:46 pm

really hard to tell if this is the same bus

Touch Nicks Thing Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:52 pm

This is probably the ultimate hippy bus renovation, can't wait to see it finished!

sled Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:56 pm

for those interested, the driver of that porsche 550 was Jack F. Manting from Big Rapids, Michigan where he had a dealership.

Greg this thread is fantastic, cant wait for more updates.

I don't remember, as I have had them saved on my computer since
the VWPlanet days. I know I have sent them to you in the past...
