Close to the "front of the line" against the grass in the parking lot.
It had a sign with some owner/family history I think.

Anyone else remember?

I remember a guy with a blue single cab that was his dads? he was selling bed slats out of the back of it?

Ken Hippensteel out of North Georgia 57' single cab that his parents bought new. Ken has a picture of himself as a kid in front of the truck that he dislpays at shows, which is pretty cool. Really nice single cab that has won multiple 1st place trophys at shows in the southeast. I will see if I can find a pic.

I saw an original condition tin-top '67 westy at OCTO a few years back. It was the owner's first OCTO meet and he brought along two buddies. When he mentioned that he was the original owner I said, "That's cool!" To which he replied, "No, it's not that cool...it means that I'm really old." :D

Ken's words/pix....

1963 Single Cab bought new by my dad from Rippel Motor, Lorain. I personally handed the salesman a check for $ 2340.00 and drove it home

Giving it a bath Summer 1967

Hauling the Honda 90 to Put-in Bay in 1967

Ken was 17 when he drove that truck home. It replaced a Fire Engine Red 57 single that his dad bought.

This is a picture of my dads 57. This was his first SC and the one I first learned to drive on. This picture was taken about 5 years ago at the Columbus, OH COVVC show. It now belongs to a gentleman named David Shepard from the Columbus area and I understand it is undergoing a complete restoration.

I would love to contact him if anyone knows of him.

Here is Ken Hippensteel's SC. Really sweet bus and he is a super nice guy:

The picture in front is him and his brother standing in front of it when they were little.... 8)

This is one cool story, great thread. Only grannies keep their shiz this nice and clean over the years. Looks like she made some custom curtains for it to back in the day. These two pictures give me chills. That interior is so choice! I can smell it from here. Lovin the radio delete plate, no music needed, just listen to the tunes of the motor, rattles and bumps and good conversation.

Simply awesome. 8)

Curious about the different license plates in 1967? And what happened to the antenna?

Abscate Wed Mar 29, 2017 9:56 am

It's not owned by anybody in this thread... so, I doubt we'll know anything more about the antenna... besides that is was removed.

Thanks Steve.

It is true; I don't fully qualify (as our family being "first" owners).

My grandparents (gone since the early 1970's) were the second owners of our 1967, buying it from their neighbor in 1969 (after their first bus was in an accident).

My parents took it over in the early '70's, and then I started driving it in 1987.

Heck; thanks to my grandparents, my Triple-A card says that I have been a member since 1950 (20 years before I was born).

My father-in-law (on the far right) bought the bus brand-new in 1962. Traded an MGA in for it. It's been in the family ever-since.

This is a photo of he and I last year at a local car show. He is so proud to point to old pictures of he and the bus and tell everyone who wants to listen all the stories he has about it. :D
