I never said they were rare. I just knew that's where there was a picture I could steal

This thread makes me want to put my non-original, yet period correct, hitch back on.

Super sweet thread. Excellent photos as always hazetguy.

Yes that is the one I have. It's at the body shop so no pics yet. I will post them as soon as I can.

Just some pics of my Westfalia tow bar that someone may want for reference.

I have an original hitch like those on my Irish double cab. I'll have to get some more detailed photos of it, but it uses three mounting holes to the frame on each side, and has the funny European ball on it. I removed the rotten contents of the wiring housing, and replaced the wiring with the standard US four-wire plug -- it fit nicely in there, but is ordinarily completely hidden.
You can see it in this photo, but not in detail:

I got a question and since most of the tow hitch styles that I am interesting for my baywindow are in this topic, it's better to ask in here.

I would like to know which hitch is suitable for a 211-707-399 gravel guard.

Has any baywindow owner installed with success and without any kind of modifications those two parts on a rear bumper?

Thanks.

I bought it second hand from Custom & Commercial. To be honest I just took their word for it, there is no badge or anything, are you saying its not Westfalia? If you are, is that your opinion or a fact? It is a very good fit & is very good quality, however I'm no expert & it might be some other make. Any light you can shed would be appreciated, thanks for the input. :D

i'm saying that in my opinion it's not westfalia and that i'm 100% certain that you can take my opinion for a fact.

and i've never seen any towhitch banana shaped to the rear like yours is, it looks almost like maybe someone tried pulling a big truck out of somewhere.........

also the way the ball hitch is fitted/welded looks almost amateurish and not at all westfalia engineered.

i have seen one banana bent towards the front after i reversed at speed into the concrete base of the only street lamp in the middle of a big carpark. it was a westfalia hitch. :P

I'd be interested in knowing who made it, if you saw it up close you'd see that its not amateur its very well made, the bumper brackets look VW & fit perfect, the banana bar is very thick metal & would need specialist equipment to bend & the bar through the middle is fully welded top & bottom, in fact all the welds are fully welded. It was defiantly made by a company, could it be a VW part then? :?

Looks like a westfalia hitch to me. Definitely not for a late bay. Westfalia has made many hitches for many years for many different vehicles. The curve tells me it was not made for a bus. There is never a need to cut out the bumper.

On my last bus I didn't have to cut the bumper & the gravel guard fitted, on this bus I did have to cut the bumper & the gravel guard wouldn't fit. There is obviously a difference with my old bumper & this one, the other bus was a 1996.
