I was with my first wife under a year but the divorce took 4 years  . She kept slipping town. Have a son that I've raised from the first marriage, back to the her skipping town.

Second marriage has lasted 13 years. My son has never called her mom but after having his mother run off on him you can't blame him. My secret to a happy marriage is resisting the urge to bury them in the desert and buying flowers instead.

17 years and no kids. Like other long lasting marriages I think our relationship works because we are different. We have different interests to keep ourselves occupied. We don't tell each other what the other can do or not do or what the other can or can't spend money on. No one is 'in control'.

33 year with 2 daughters and a son, all grown and out on their own. Soon to gain a terrific son-in-law. We've been lucky in life, with some hard work attached to it.

They still ask for my homebrew when they visit (my son is making his own now). They still play with their old toy trains I gave them so many years ago, and they each want one of my cars. I'm hoping they'll learn to wrench a little. 2 of them go to VW shows with me occasionally. Nice that they'll spend so much time with a grouchy old fart like me. Very nice.....

How long married? kid's?
Wow, almost forgot. Been together a bit over fifty years.
This year married for forty-eight of them. We are both in our early seventies.

My bride is Japanese. Met her while stationed at NAS Atsugi in
Early summer 1961. She worked for the Air Force in their supply department at TACHIKAWA located in Tokyo.

I drove up there from Atsugi with another sailor to pick up some aircraft parts one day. We were rolling a large flat bed truck.
He had a license for the vehicle, I didn’t. While attempting to move the truck to facilitate getting a fork lift access to load our stuff, I back over a bike rack and wiped out three bikes.

To avoid having to call the AP’s (air police) I made a deal to replace all three. I located the first two owners both Japanese men.
No problem. The third belonged to this very angry, but drop dead gorgeous, little girl with long, long hair, coffee and cream complexion, the biggest almond shaped, brown eye’s I’d ever seen. A killer figure and a blazing smile when she wasn’t pissed off.
I want down in flames.

It took me a while ( two hour drive each way from Atsugi to Tachikawa in Tokyo) but she finaly agreed to have coffee with me ( after I replaced the bike ) and later a dinner date at the air force enlisted club on base.

We married in September 1963 in Tokyo. Been together ever since.
We have one daughter, born in 1974 who grew up while we were stationed in Japan again years later. I taught her to drive in my ‘66 Volkswagen Bug. She’s bi-lingual, a fluent Japanese speaker and writer, with a fair degree of Spanish. She’s been living / working in Tokyo the last eleven years for a Japanese company.

After thirty years in the Navy and a follow on career with federal civil service with the navy, I retired in 2004.

We try to get out to Tokyo each year to see the kid and visit the wifes family, her mom is 97.
Looking forward to our 50th anniversary. Gonna do that one in Tokyo. Should be a blow out!
:D

I was friends with my wife for two years before we started dating and we dated for five years before getting married. We've been married seven years, we have a four year old daughter, and we don't plan on having any more kids. We're complete opposites in almost every way possible and it totally works for us.

Married 17 years, together for 20. No kids.

Here's the secret: Find the smartest, funniest, kindest person you've ever met, date long enough to make sure they feel the same about you, and then marry them.

That's some good advice right there. Succinct. I like it.

Met my ex-wife when I was 16, she was 14. Got married 4 years later and that lasted for 20 years. Three Kids, 2 boys now 34 and 31, and a 29 year old daughter. None of my Kids have been married. The oldest has 2 boys from different women, the younger son is getting married in April. He has no Kids at this time. My Daughter has a 9 year old daughter. Of the 3 Grankids I get to see the Grand Daughter the most. Really great kid!

My Dad met my Mom on a blind date in Lodi, California. They have been married for 56 years, hopefully 57 this July. I am the oldest of what was 3 Kids. Thank you drunk driver and cancer.

Will I ever get married again? Thought about it but really do not care to.

For all of you out there........In a marriage you can either be right or you can be happy. The choice is yours.

Married for 14 years, together for 19. 12 year old son, and 11 year old daughter. I can't imagine the boredom I'd feel without them.

Forgot to mention how my wife and I met….she was scopin' me at the gym and she ended up leaving a note on my beetle. The note mentioned that she needed someone who knew about VW to come and work on her 65 bus…yep I knew things would be alright.

She later told me that it took her a long time to figure out her angle of approach, but when she found out I drive VW's that gave her the excuse she needed to get to know me.

So, we can say that VWs brought us together.

Hey dad, can I have the keys to the car?

Matt K. Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:14 am

I have had several long relationships.....but they never seemed to totally "click"....the gal i am with now is a keeper....she is 15 years my senior and every bit as wild as i am.....but we click.....that is important. We talk, laugh, cry and sit down and really talk about problems, life, work etc.

I know what i want...and that is not to follow the same marital path as my mother (Love her Dearly) but damn she was married 10.....yes 10 different times...OYE!
