Yes, a must read for sure, especially considering these Cars are Twins...

rustbus Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:51 am

whoa, that IS a twin car. and thats one hell of a thread, 70+ pages!

lots of photos too, thats perfect!

beautiful car he found there though, unbelievable. I'd love to polish the old paint but im not sure what to do with that hood.....we'll see.

are these signal lights hard to find? I assume a headlight setup can be had out of replacement parts...?

Also - I assume the voltage woudl depend primarily on the engine's generator....this would affect light bulbs and gauges, right? oh wait, there's only a speedo! lol. love it.

I agree- dont you have regrets selling yours? nows your chance to do it all over again and keep it this time

rustbus Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:06 pm

what?! LT you sold that car? I haven't finished reading the thread....still at about page 30 or so.
shoot you guys ruined the surprise

Wow - any regrets?

I tried to sell this beetle for my dad - had it listed locally for about 2 weeks then I chickened out. not every day you come by an old beetle, really. I could feel the potential regret before I even had a serious offer....

No regrets whatsoever. My reasons for selling remain.

Once was enough thank you very much.... at least for an oval, anyway.

Been there, done that, got the t shirt.

For the record, I've currently got a '89 GMC G20 Vandura Day van on the driveway.... This will eventually yeild it's motor for my up and coming '34 Ford 3 window build - but not before it takes me to Bug Jam this weekend!

Gorgeous car man, can't believe how solid it is, perhaps even more so than my 57 oval rag (see thread below)......!
Glad you decided to keep it. These cars are treasures.

charley497 Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:47 am

Wow LT, a GM engine in a Ford. I don't think that's stock. :)

You sold your 57 Oval, and bought a 89 GMC to take you to Bug Jam.... :-k

hello everyone

years later, Dad and i have started opening this can of worms. my apologies for the pic links failing....id have to fire up a pretty old computer to find those original photos lol.

needs a little of everything. full brakes, steering /tie rods, kingpins for sure, and some new shocks.

im in Canada, not scared of buying out of the US but, import fees, i probably shouldn't ignore on what i expect to be a $1000 order at least.

Is there a one stop shop i can source all of this in reasonable quality?

one of the guys on the first page recommended wolfsburg an/or west coast metric... should i just choose one of those and fill my cart?

any Canadians around with suggestions? CIP1.....i just dont know anymore , is it any good?

thanks!

Big Bull Shooter Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:44 am

I get a lot of parts from CIP1, and find them to have a good selection and good service. They carry everything from crappy parts to quality parts, and usually give a description of the part with an expectation of fit and quality. I've also ordered from Concept1, and it looks like they carry some Wolfsburg West products as well.
Our dollar has gained some strength against the US dollar in the past months, and the exchange gap is decreasing. I've ordered from the US 3 different times in the last year, and had good results. I always try to have my items shipped by USPS, as they haven't added the "duty/brokerage" extortion fees that other carriers like to add on. I've also had good luck buying original used parts from other dubbers in western Canada through Facebook groups.
Please upload some new pics! I'm in Jasper, what part of the province are you in?

Nice! 8)

Parts quality is going to be the real challenge.
Luckily, there are quality, and cheap parts both available for beetles,
Unlike your bus.

WW has all of the best available stuff.
Same with aircooled.net.
If you can afford it, buy everything from them.
WCM has mostly good, but some duds.
CIP is a crapshoot. They sell good stuff and bad stuff and you’ll only know after you install (or try to install) a part.

Unless you have a bunch of recent experience with these parts,
It’s best to bite the bullet and order from the best place.

Being a guinea pig for crap parts really sucks,
And makes the hobby far less fun.

I will add, check out https://www.volkzbitz.com/ and get a restored carb. For restored OG fuel pumps and distributors check out https://www.sparxwerks.com
Both of these guys are members here, and offer exceptional quality, service and after purchase support. I have purchased from both of these members, and would highly recommend them.

I hope you can post pictures soon. Also begin a list of what you will need. Good parts are where you find them. I buy from all over depending on what it is. My build thread:

Good luck!
