You should go with a unique paint/colour scheme (a la Rosie) and make those wonderful little toys of your creation. You made this bus from the ground up and it should have something that screams it! :)

Rosie could've been just 'another' Deluxe, but it will probably be forever recalled due to it's delicious paint (and the toys of course). Thank you for sharing your work and progress!

I AGREE..ITS SHOULD HAVE A COLOR THAT STANDS OUT FROM YOUR EVERYDAY ORIGINAL COLORS,,,AND WHAT IS ORIGINAL???NOBODY REALLY KNOWS,,,,IF YOU LOOK AT OLD PICTURES EVEN THOUGH THERE BLACK AND WHITE,,THERE'S SOME PRETTY COOL COLOR COMBOS OUT THERE,,SO KEEP AT THE CRAZY GREAT WORK!!ILL BE WATCHING..

Wow, outstanding work! Following for progress. Trying to break out of my routine of going to the bay window forums...and stumbled across this thread.

Thanks so much for posting your progress, this is fun to follow!

Oh and I am now checking out Airmighty and seeing what that site has to offer as well.

Thanks, unfortunately I doubt we would head in that direction, as it adds quite a few hours to the drive, and the mountain range heading south is not as large as heading west. Plus we have to stop and see Art in Salt lake.

The plan as of this far is I'm taking the '52, a friend of mind will drive the '54 kombi, Trevor will take his '53 truck, Chris will be bringing his '55 wolfsburg single cab, and a couple others with various buses, etc. Sounds good in theory, but lots of work ahead of all of us to make that happen.

Well, Ive got a set-in-stone date to take the bus out to the bodyshop on the island... next Friday!

I've got to get as much of the metal work done as possible before then, at least all the detail stuff I'm worried about.

Like this section, that was just messed. This bus uses the early style T heater knob.

And this is a pic Franz sent me of what should be there.

And my copy of that piece, in stalled.

And some people are skeptical that I'll be able to finish the metal work in time... :oops:

Ok. I grew up around classic american rods and customs. I had no choice as this was what my dad was into. I found Volkswagens on my own. I just have to say, that I've seen some pretty crazy shit as far as projects and what's put into some restorations or custom jobs on those cars but......

NOTHING compares to some of the work I've seen since I've been a member here on the Samba. It is just absolutely amazing what is done to keep these vehicles alive and on the roads. I think I can even go as far as to say that there must be a deeper connection, more dedication.....a deeper love for these vehicles.

This build is just nothing short of amazing. My hat is off to you, sir.

i would take a guess that this bus is going to the courtney, campbell river area for body work n paint.whats the turn round time on it. jims past work looks very top noch.

Thanks for the offer Geoff. We made the 2200km round trip, without much issue. Just some crappy weather and 3 blown trailer tires... :roll:

Thank you. I appreciate your comment very much. I've been inspired by what other have done on this site as well. Massive amounts of work, and as you say, dedication.

Well, I made it past what was for sure the most challenging step. The metal work. I have to admit, there is some tricky bits I left for Jim to tackle, but he and Paul are incredible at what they do. I think he should change the name of his shop to "Jim's house of miracles"

Yes, the bus is out at Original Restorations in Courtaney B.C. It's a massive drive from here including a two hour ferry ride each way. My two buddies and I did the drive over the course of 3 days leaving very early on Friday morning. People question why I do this. Jim is an old friend, and incredibly passionate about these cars. He's worth it.

A "good" section of road on the way home. There was a blizzard so bad, we couldn't see the road at all, at some points.
