glad you chimed in 8)

i can grab photos off of my truck if it comes to it, just let me know

Thanks, just trying to back myself up when it comes time to talk to Gerson. His helper (the guy that answers the phone) already told me I'm SOL. :?

Hey Brando, if you have the time would you mind taking a few close up shots of the rear left gates top and bottom where it meets with the side gate with the latch in the up position?

Hope these help. If you need anymore, let me know.

Really hope KF takes care of you.

That’s awesome. Thank you much!

Well my body guy called KF and explained the situation, Gerson said there was a bad batch back then and sent out a new rear gate. \:D/ I have to return the previous one to him at his house less than an hour away.

Passenger side;

Driver side;

Better than before, just a few mm lopsided. I guess I'll just have to roll with it. It's been so long and I'm just damn tired of this shit.

I thought about that with my DC, which also took years to get done. But Hagerty won't let me use if to make money. :(

I just started going w/ State Farm, they Insured my '66 Single for a $20K value, it was $165 for 6 months, which is a little more than my regular insurance company, Amica, but will pay out the full value if anything happens, where as Amica would not. Plus no restrictions on what I do w/it, where when I drive it ect. I thought they w/ carry it through Hagerty, or Garrity or who ever, but they just carry it under State farm.

Jerry started working on the drop gates. First step epoxy primer.

Then high build primer.

There were plenty of dimples from the spot welds along with minor waves. Did not want to look at them all. So we got rid of a bunch.

Paint.

And mounted.

Tailgate still needs some work.

Still a lot more work to do up front.

That's all for now.

Fucking frustrated!!! Can not get the passenger belt line to line up. The KF drop gate is what it is and it does not line up with the B pillar. Nothing can be done with this. HOWEVER... the door will not line up with the B pillar. The door has been shimmed, unshimmed, thick shims, skinny shims. The door gaps look OK but we cannot get the belt line right. The drivers door opening has been measured many many times and compared to the passenger door opening. This is the best it gets. If we raise the rear of the door to make the line correct then the top of the door rubs on the body. Many hours were spent trying to fix this to no avail.

I hate looking at this. Guess I'll just have to live with it. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

jtauxe Mon Jan 31, 2022 10:03 am

Yup -- you'll probably have to live with it. Like I am having to live with KlassicFab's mis-placed canopy tie-down loops. I had to get a custom canopy made to fit it.

It seems like the problem is something deeper, like a misalignment or nonlinearity in the unibody underneath. I have no suggestions, sorry.

That's a sickener at this stage of your resto, been silently following for years.

Do you think maybe the rotisserie could have caused something to twist?

that was my thought. how does the door match up to the nose and was the nose replaced?

honestly, that B post bubble looks odd to me. like it doesn't have the right shape

babysnakes Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:00 pm

Thanks guys. Ya wanna stop by and watch me roll it down the local boat ramp?

After studying the pics this weekend I called Jerry and told him I think the frame is bent on the passenger side. The rear passenger side was hit, the frame at the end was bent a bit.

Not the best pic.

The impact may have been just strong enough to tweak the frame. So who wants to come see a reenactment of the Titanic?

challomoner Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:40 pm

The swage line looks better here although it may be the angle. It's something you would expect to be picked up on while fitting the dogleg though. The dogleg looks twisted inwards at the top here too.

busdaddy Mon Jan 31, 2022 3:25 pm

Damn, that more than sucks! :?
I'm wondering if it's the result of a slightly funky dog leg, on top of other lower panel repairs further back (B pillar and rocker), if something moved before welding, or a mis shapen repro part was used for alignment the door hole and other spots could get tweaked. A 1/4" too long on multiple parts adds up. :(
In the interest of forensics I'd spend a few hours cross measuring all over the truck and find the anomaly, not that there's much you could do about it now.
You might end up customising a door to fit the hole.

there was a LOT of that truck taken apart at once. SOP is to repair 1 section at a time and jig as needed. you'd be amazed how floppy shit gets when you take most of it away.

not sure how i'd handle it. if the door matches in the front and the gap is even i'd be inclined to "split the difference" but cutting the B pillar and move the belt line where it would be least offensive
