Hi,
I was wondering what happened to Billy Mitchell's "Thunderbug". I tried to contact him several times, but never got any response.
I know, he is now racing V8 and has a performance shop on Long Island. Apparently he does not talk much about his old bug.
Does anyone know, if he still owns Thunderbug? If not, does anyone knows who is the current owner and if the car is still around?
Thanks

Don't expect to ever hear back from him, he never talks about the VW years. |

Do you know why he never talks about it? I know NHRA outlawed Thunderbug because of the chop, where they changed the angle of the windshield.
Is it because of that? |

Is it me or does the picture of the car look bent in the middle or is it a center fold in a magazine?

i have talked to joel rosen. he told me that he did not know what happen to the thunder bug . he told me that bill mitchell was head of motion mini car and that bill would know what happen to the thunder bug . i do know that the thunder bug number 1 was cut up for scrap . after bill hit a wall with it . i herd from a guy that bought the porsche race car . said that the thunderbug number 2 chassie is under thec porsche. and that the porsche is being restored . the guy that owns the porsche could not get bill to talk to him . even though bill has a picture of the porsche race car on his wall in his office. there is a guy on samba that has. i think thenuber 3 motion race car that was built by bill at motion. he is in florida he goes by the name fubar1425 on samba i think his motion race car is called the buzzing bee that he is restoreing he knows a lot about motion . i only got to the frount desk at bills shop and the lady said no way bill will talk about the vws. joel told me he does talk to bill . so i dont think bill is mad at joel i think bill is mad that they said he never turned the times he did with the thunderbug there was a big stink about it back then . i can say that joel rosen is one nice guy and he will talk to you hope this helps spencerfvee.......... |
