I agree about the poor lifters, that is why when I go to swap meets I look for lifters for t-1 and t-4 and T-1 steering boxes, ha .

A Vee Racer friend used to look for early bug engines 1200 or 1300 I forget which one, but it was because he could cheat, the early lifters were lighter for faster reving.

I have found that the single one thing to do for a Type IV is putting in a good cam, amazing difference. TYPE IV's have that sucky Fuel injected cam.

I had 2 914 2.0 engines both built up from 1.7 to 2.0 one had the cam.

It came in at 1500 rpms and was a major difference.

This thread went along way in the last few days!
nextgen, when we purchased our bus a few years ago, there was 3 things i really like about the setup.
Its a 1971 so we had front disc brakes, the type 1 style engine: its simplicity with tons of aftermarket parts, and the fact the bus had a sportsmobile roof with a double bed up top. I felt like i had the best of both world, sleeping capacities and brakes of a late bay with the mechannic of a earlier one.
Iam just not ready to change that! And still new to type1 engine, but starting to know more and more, iam not gonna swap all that! :)

Going back on the main subject.
Heres the list of parts i have made so far. I plan on getting whats needed to close the engine block. Then by the time thats done i should have a little more funds to pass to the next level.

-Engine case bored for 90.5/92 and clearanced for stroker crank
-Forged chromoly crank 82mm with vw journals
-Engle FK41 cam
-Engle cam followers
-90.5*82 piston cylinder kit
-5.4 inch H beam rods with arp bolt (vw journals)
-hardware kit
-cam plug
-teflon button

For the bearing, i use standard bearings i guess? I see double trust bearing sets, is that worth it?
As for the lifter, is it a wise choice (engle lifter with engle cam...)
Straight cut cam gear, how would that affect the engine??

5.4 rod or longer? could longer rod interfere inside the case? would i have to remove some meat form inside?

Once again thanks to everyone for all the good info and help!

Hi Louis, I was just following up with 67 Beetle, I understand you want to stick with the T-1, no problem just threw the T-4 in if you were unaware of the conversion.
