Quote: Looks like Beauty rings but they look weird for some reason
They actually look like the rims themselves without any rings. Beauty rings for 1965 would've still had the 10 "narrow" slots. These look like they have only 8 slots, also being longer than the 10 slots. Porsche 356 4.5" chromie wheels (sold by Empi & others) had 10 slots also, with a rounded "D" shape. The chromies also had a more deep dish look than these; my guess is that these rims are 4.0". These slots look like very long "sausages". Also, beauty rings tended to bridge the gap between the hubcap edge and the outer edge of the rim, and not dip inwards towards the outer edge like these do.
If this is truly a steel wheel, it's one I've never seen...
dirtbug- you would not happen to still have these wheels on your Beetle? |

Looks like a later mirror he's holding. But I guess they were avialable before. I only remember round style through at least '65 in the US. |

This Les Sipes photo was taken on August 1st 1969 and is labeled "screwball pix's of horse tied to a parking meter on Main street, business district" Walnut Creek.
Horse on the sidewalk, I assume it did not need to "pay the meter"

I wonder if it's Walnut Creek CA.? I lived there for awhile. I would think the picture would be a little older than 1969, but I guess the date could be right. I was there in the early 70's and it didn't look like that. It definatly doesn't look like that now. I wish I knew the street name. |
