I used to use SPS rod bolts and studs back in the day until I went into one of their plants to set up a calibration program and their QC equipment hadn't been cal'd in like 5 years. There was so much out of whack that I never bought another SPS product. BTW...they turned down our quote and I have no idea if they ever did do any cal work!

its the same as torq'n the head bolts of a harley head. with oil on the threads (or locktite) it reduces the torque pressure by a few ft. lbs. I know some will argue that to be a no-no ..... for example. when you torq a stack , head , head gasket , cylinder , base gasket, on a harley for the company i work for's (proper english i know) we give a torq spec of with oil on threads , and without. just a lite dab , bout the same you would with lock tite...

7-9 ftlbs. 7 being with oil , 9 being dry
12-15 etc etc etc .... if you do torq it to full spec with locktite or oil on the threads you will indeed over torq it..... im sure someone will try and refute me

There is nothing wrong with a beam type torque wrench, they never need to be recalibrated. the only thing that clicker type have over beam is they are faster to do V-8 head bolts, I have both types and on a ACVW I will only use a beam type, with a beam type you can see when some thing is wrong. now If some one would make a BT with a ratchet head. I would like to have a 3/4" clicker type for gland and axle nuts

I know the beam kind are acurate...it's just that it's a little more difficult to read (vs. like a click type which'll let you know when it hits the proper number).
