Sorry about the lack of posts. The Syncro van just got a full interior/exterior repaint and poptop coversion, but I'm happy to inform the project is getting closer to completion. For the final stages of the build, I decided to use Mario @ The Dub Shop. He is the man when it comes to creativity and designing megasquirt systems. So far we have decided on the following:
- Water injection based on intake temperature.
- Distributor blocked off and a trigger wheel will be installed on the crank pulley.
- Knock sensor
- New upgraded injectors
Here's some teaser pics:

I'm watching with interest. I have always wanted to add a turbo to my WBX bug.

| I am interested in the 60 minus 2 crank trigger wheel you posted. I checked the website and their online catalog would not load. I assume it mounts under the crank pulley? The bracket pictured mounts to the WBX case or is this air cooled stuff? I am toying with the idea of setting up an Electromotive TEC S system on my Syncro to see if a kit could be put together for resale. Please post some pictures of the crank sensor and wheel once you get them mounted. Great project. |

Thanks for all of the kind words! Now to answer some questions.
1. The trigger wheel and crank sender bracket I posted a picture of was for reference. The one shown is for an aircooled motor. Mine will be ther same, mounted to the back of the crank pulley with a similar bracket made for the WBX. I recommend emailing Mario for more information.
2. Boost will be set around 6psi or a bit lower. I do not have a HP figure in mind as this project is to build a simple/reliable setup and to bring the WBX to modern performance. Will I be doing burnouts with all 4 tired spinning on my Syncro? No...But I will get over those mountain passes with ease and achieve decent MPG with a modern/tuneable fuel injection system.
3. We are still in the process of making everything fit under the engine lid, so yes what you see in the photos is to show the engine lid height. Fortunately, there is a decent amount of room with the stock WBX.
More updates are soon to follow. |

I found this a while ago, seems like a crazy idea but people actually use it this way. And that's how the Prius AC works so why not?

You just need a good alternator. :) |

Very interesting project. Nice that you're finding time to complete it.
For the newb here.... Does the distributor drive pinion have to be removed as well?

it's a shame you couldn't fit the supercharger over the plenum, it's going to make changing the spark plugs on that side a PITA
please a lot more picture though, this is looking VERY VERY interesting.

X2. Watching with great interest. Pictutes and updates are very welcome. And after you are driving it, please give us a report on how it drives, pros/cons, or glitches along the way. Thanks for sharing this project! |
