  View original topic: Help me fix the dellorto dribble!

Hello, I finally started my new engine yesterday and noticed that one of the barrels is filling with fuel when shut, I can see it comes from the transit ports.
The carbs is 45 drla.

It had been nice to live in usa and just send them to ACE, but since I live in Norway and have used up my money on the engine I hope someone could instruct me how to fix it.

So if anyone sit on some good information please share to our nice community. :roll:

That plug circled in red in the middle has come loose, you must take out the plug on the outside, and hopefully the offending plug will just fall out of there.
Then you can either make a new one, or try to glue it in place again again

Do you know if anyone sells that plug that I have to drill?
I guess I can probably just push the little loose plug with a drill bit back into place..?

"Easy" is a bit strong, but with luck, it is "possible"

I immediately think of going through my boxes of thousands of various sized little metal thingies to find something just the right diameter and gluing it in with a dab of loktite, but that is just the habit of my creature

Has anyone heard of this happening to 40 DRLAs? Or is it only the 45s that suffer this problem?

What's "hard" is making sure you don't screw up the passage, so you can make plugs that will fix it. I custom make the plugs from brass rod, grind them with a small taper, then fit them in.. the plugs must be made right or you will screw up the job by occluding the passage in the wrong place. I tap the outer access for a 5mm screw and use sealant on it in case it ever needs to be accessed again. The reason this tends to happen is water in the passage causing oxides to push the plug out.

Has anyone figured out a test to see if a carb is leaking at that plug, without having to install it on an engine and running it?

yeah, easy
just fill the float bowl full of solvent and see if it leaks out

Referring to the porn:

If the plug is leaking, the fuel will travel from the float chamber down under the float chamber's floor, into the passage leading to the bottom of the main jet. Then it goes through the main jet and out the four holes at the bottom of the emulsion tube. From there it directed by the internal plug to go up through the idle jet, then down to the other side of that internal plug. It goes over then down to the transition ports, or it continues down to the idle mixture screw, and finally into the air stream.

So when this internal plug comes loose, fuel passes directly from the main jet/emulsion tube, then into the progression ports, bypassing the metering of the idle jet.

Thanks everybody, but modok this was way to easy.
About 5 minutes in total and now it is just as "new"

Just put it back in, tappet it some times and installed a normal screw.


Going to cut it down with a dremel tomorrow, (night time here now).

I just went through this , sorry no photos , I drilled the plugs and used a small self tapping screw to screw in then pull the plugs out , for the inner plug I used a straighten out picture hook.

Also from info posted before I used 4 and 5mm brass grub screws instead of lead plugs . you need to be careful that you don't screw the inner one in too far because it will cut off flow to the jet . I found out the hard way . I ended up placing a drill bit through where the idle jet seats and draws fuel to gauge how far to screw in inner screw if that makes any sense . I used blue thread locker . so far no problems .
