Is in necessary to clearance the big end of the rods, ie. stroker rods for a 74 mm crank? |

alway check for proper clearance. and do it with a piston in the cylinder&rod in the piston so the rod is in the correct position.it dosent take much of the rod not being out of it,s running position to either clear or not clear.you dont want to clearance right though the case when there was no reason for clearancing to start with. |

Using stroker rods (Stock VW rods) made my build much easier, plus the upgraded bolts were cheap piece of mind |

Id suggest get the empi chromoly pushrods. They are like 35 bucks and 1000 times better than stock. Cant run stock pushrods with ratio rockers and a big cam and more spring pressure. Not gonna hold up so dont even waste your time and money.
For less than 2 20s for a set of pushrods, thats the route id go.
Many on here who know me well... take note....lol. This is prob the only time in samba history that i will suggest anything empi. |

yup I have 2 sets of empi and a set of cb .035 pushrods, there identicle!!! even the loose tips that were machined too small an about 1/2 of them, with less than .0005 interfearance fit(slip fit). the .058 ones are much better.but I have to add the cb pushrods like that were about 8-10 years ago, and the empis were within 2 years ago.not had anny issues with the cb ones since,(think I have only gotten the ,058 ones lately)and the empi regular steel ones are just sharpend on the ends. not a ball.I have run the stiff single springs with the aluminum pushrods with no problem, but the good doubble springs flex the hell out of them. |
