			| Alright ill post the back of the radio delete. Reason is no holes to hold on the trim. If such thing exist it will rattle and make noise. Sealant is kinda like a glue to hold it in place. | |

you bend the 4 tabs, then 3 split clips go on the chrome trim studs, finally use some 3M tar sealant ropes, break off a piece, roll into ball and smosh over clips and bent tabs to seal it all- NO RATTLES and DONE RIGHT

			| More update. I just got a complete 58 from washington to use as a donor.
Now out of this car are sweet original blue grey seats. They look good. :D

Because of this 58 i have the motor that turns and transmission. Floor pans will help fix up the pan i have now. This will be great and will speed up my work on the black beauty.

			| A little update. The blue 58 has a matching ignition and door handle key. The problem is the door handle is pitted and spring is bad and hard to turn it with a key. So i swapped the wafers in the tumbler to the one on my black beauty. Cleaned up the inside and tested it. It works great and now i have a key that will work on both door and ignition. Pics

if your radio block off plate did not have the 3 holes drilled in face, then it was for a non deluxe standard 1200/1200A beetle or a 1967 only vw bus.

			| I have been looking and looking with no luck. I even have my brother in ID looking for me. Where did you find that black 58 and the parts car? I must say very nice find though and there is not much out here in WA. Too many vw nuts. :) | |

The blue one was on thesamba classifieds. It was a tough decision to get it from washington since it was 800 miles away from me. Still i got it and it was worth getting it. It will be a part car to fix my black 58.

			| More update. Parted the blue 58 body off the pan. Easy access to motor, transmission, floor pans etc... Motor is ok just some corrosion going on inside the heads. I will look at the pistons to make sure they are ok.

The right head is the worse one. I am concerned but i am crossing my fingers

parts off the motor. Carburetor is frozen. Butterfly wont move. Rusted along the shaft. I will try to soak it with pb blaster.

I will be painting those tins to restore the looks on the motor.

			| I tried to take apart the motor but the heads are pretty much rusted to the cylinder. Just surprising that the motor turns just fine. Plus the corrosion is on the engine case. Pretty much eating its way through... I got another motor for a great price from my friend and he will include all the tins and the air cleaner, correct distributor, heater boxes. Motor turns and much better shape. Pics

			| Well i did alot today. Thanks to holiday :). First i worked on the pan and scraped off the tar mat on the tunnel.

I was able to look inside the tunnel to see why PO cut the holes. Found out that i will need to replace the whole clutch tube due to the tube really messed up near the pedal. I can even move it. Pics

Finally got the last fender off the blue 58. The rear fenders need some work.

Floor pan repair section. I will probably butt weld it up since i would like it to look original.

Worked on the motor by checking the compression. Results were horrible.... 3 and 4 are 25 psi.. 1 and 2 has no compression at all. So i took off the heads and i found this.....

 3 and 4

 1 and 2.
I will go deeper in the engine. I will take off the connecting rods to make sure the crankshaft is good. If its fine then just a simple top end rebuild.

			| cool car.. i had a capri blue 58.. one of my favorite cars.. lol what did you expect from those motors? look at em. If your really wanting to go the 36hp route id tear em down and start from scratch.. but id sell all the tin and find out if the cases are good and if so sell them as well and use the money to build a 1600 single or dual. You might get a decent amout of cash to go toward your rebuild.. | |

The 36 hp that i just bought, the po said if the motor doesnt work out then i will get my refund. Got it for a very good deal plus i will part out the bad motor out of the blue 58 and get my money back. | |

			| So i was checking out the engine to see the size of rod bearings. Std size but also has the vw symbol on it... so i checked the pistons. It has vw symbol on it... This engine just might be an unmolested engine and never been rebuilt. Im not 100% sure yet. Still its cool to see that. Other update
Just a little update. Not much. Worked on cleaning the heads to check for any cracks, pitting. Nothing. Good heads but i will replace the exhaust valves.
Worked on the rear panel to fix the holes i made from welding....

Looks better. I will put some filler on it but it will be very light.
Worked on the bumper bracket to shapen the panel back in place.

This apron is going on my car. Very nice and straight.

 also stripped the pan

 Thats all i have.

			| You have picked a very ambitious project. Congratulations on your progress and determination. Great that you are taking the effort to straighten, recondition and reuse original metal for the rust repair.
While you have the pan apart, consider welding in two 10mm nuts onto the sides of the tunnel so that you can later install lap belts.

If you plan to paint your blue apron and the fenders black, consider using Rust-O-Leum gloss black via spray gun and compressor. With some practice you;'ll get decent coverage. The paint dries to a dull gloss so that it appears somewhat weathered & cloudy to match the rest of the body.

In Jan. 2007 I found the same rear interior panels as you have (green/beige) in a severely rotted Beetle in a junkyard in MA. I bought them just to have as a souvenir. That color scheme, if you get your seats to match, will look very attractive on the black body.

With the various 36hp engines you now have, you'll probably be able to pick enough pieces to put one good one together, based on the "unmolested" shortblock.

 Looking forward to updates!
