View original topic: Where the heck can I get these bearings in a hurry!

What I need is .020" (.50mm) oversized line bore main bearings w/ oversized thrust (2.579" od, .826" thrust) - I need .010" undersize crankshaft main bearings (2.155" journal, 0.25mm undersized)

I also need a full set of .010" undersize rod journal bearings (2.155" journal, 0.25mm undersized).

CB performance doesn't have em' listed as such, I needed these 3 weeks ago! HELP!

Did you check with Brother's VW Machine Shop? Rimco? AirCooled.Net?

I need 1mm on the thrust, Go figure, I wouldn't order crap from any builder that does a lign bore and crank grind but with no thrust, what were they thinking? Does no body thrust align their cases? horizontal is great but the slop can't be fixed by adding shims at the end play folks, do the math...

modok Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:17 pm

what? do what math?

google the part number

targetinspect Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:19 pm

Close size @ .040 but still wrong, who makes the .10 Thrust? I'm sure its right in front of my face somewhere, it just seems so easy, I need 20 on the case 10 on the crank and 10 on the thrust!

modok Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:23 pm

normal thrust width is 22mm

you say you need .826, well you 'do the math" bro, that's 040, not 010

mark tucker Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:24 pm

you use a .040" thrust and cut it to fit your case, not cut the case to .040. when you cut thrust only do what it needs to clean it up.

@ Mark, No the case thrust is cut down on the case via the mill, I've never heard of cutting a bearing down though? Awesome...

DarthWeber Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:42 pm

Thanks for sharing.

In the shop I used to work at the old man would rather cut the bearing than grind the thrust if it didnt need it. He used a small jewelers lathe and would cut oversize bearings to fit. With case prices where they are these days I would rather keep as much material on the case as bearings are disposable.

Awesome... @ mark hopes you have it inline or it will kill the thrust, how did you hold the caseto get it all in line? you can make a thrust cutting tool to be sure it is straight .but if your off juat a little you will have a clearance that wont stay there the bearing will move due to it not seating on the case fully& when the pressure plate pressureis applied it will deform the bearing and probably grab the crank& spin it the case .
caranage will soon insue.befor assy you might just want to take it to somebody that knows how to properly cut the thrust. just centering up in the bearing hole dont always get it, but if your good and trianglated it all to get the case inline with your collum it might work.
