It's strange, I live just a few miles from Clay Smith's shop. I've known about them all my life and they do make very good cams but they are kind of on the periphery of VW cams, kind of like Norris, Crower and Schneider. A lot of the V8 guys swear by Clay Smith cams. I believe a couple of the Der Kleiner Panzer guys run Clay Smith cams. They make a good product and I wouldn't shy away from their cams, they just aren't as well known as the mainstream Web and Engle cams.

Roger Crawford @ Heads Up has been selling Clay Smith VW cams for at least 15 years. I had a CS 320 from him but never got around to using it.

Does anyone have a list of their grinds? There's nothing for VW's on their website.

DarthWeber Mon Mar 26, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi ALB, I don't know if you looked at the VW Parts.Net web site but here's the link. Looks like they only carry 4 grinds and of those only the CS35 looks like a "street" grind and it's 260 degrees @ 0.050".

http://www.vwparts.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=VWP&Category_Code=CSCAMS

Anyway, hope this answers your question. If not, just consider it a part of life's rich tapestry. :D
