I found this collection of photos from Southern California from the late 50s through the 90s. The bus pictures appear to be in the 60s and 70s.

Towards the bottom of Richard Guillis photo gallery is a pic of a Binz with a spare tire mounted to the front and a chrome front press bumper. I added the pic to the Samba gallery.

Good catch. The VW Trends Binz was purchased with no front bumper back in the 80s (see pic below) . The chrome bumper was added when it was "restored" and put on the front of the magazine.
However, considering the Binz came out of Huntington Beach and all the pics on that site are from So Cal, you never know. It could be the same Binz.
