hey every one i have a 1776 dp motor with dual hpmx 40s and i am trying to time my motor, i seen online that with the stock igniton you can just do it with the test light; is it posible to do it with my compu-fire set up?

That system uses a Bosch 009, you you should time it 32* BTDC @ 3500rpm.

Yes you can just use a test light to static time it..... You probable need to find which wire (probably black one) triggers the coil (like points) and attach test light to it and to ground... Set crank pulley at 7° BTDC and rotate dist body till lamp comes on.... But as Glenn suggested 28-32 degrees above 3000 RPM....

Q: How do I time the engine?
A: Front cylinder must be TDC on compression. The RED wire from the module is connected to the positive side of the battery. Turn the module all the way to the LEFT ( retard ), Make sure the LED is out and slowly move the module to the right until LED comes on .

how do you tell whenits on tdc on the compression stroke i have a dagree wheel but cant really tell

No you can't time the DIS-X system statically. There's detailed instructions on how to line up the dot on the sensor wheel and distributor body to get it close enough to fire. Make sure you get the wheel oriented right as the system has a built in retard of 2* for the #3 cylinder. If you're 009 is in good shape you should be able to see it with the timing light.

DO NOT turn the engine over even by hand, with the ignition powered up. IT WILL FIRE THE ENGINE like they say it will down to 1 rpm. I know, I tried it.

how do you tell if your 009 is trashed i have been having probloms with this motor for the last 6 months ans dont know if its the carbs or what

You need to check the distributor with he motor running. Making sure it advances correctly and that the timing is stable. Do you ever oil your distibutor. Under the rotor is a small felt pad in the shaft. a couple drops of 5w30 every once in a while keeps the advance freed up. I also spray some oil down under the point plate to keep the weights freed up My 009 is over 20 years old and still works like new.

all right all try oiling it and how can i tell my rpms with out a tach i havent had a chance to but the adapter for the system

Most modern timing lights have a tach built in.

If you have a timing light with a built in tach you can see the rpm, rememberto divide the number shown by half, as each cylinder fires twice per cycle.
