Not sure what the BFD is about altering a '67. I still get people wanting to know what year it is. Usually followed by a long story about the bug they had in college.

Finally got it to another body shop where the work is really being done because David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restorations didn't do Squat and he has the gall to tell me that he did more for me in one week than all the other people have done.. this guy lives in a fantasy world.

I hope to have it ready in about 3 weeks time... God i sure do hope so.

I tried using a brand new SCAT degree pulley but it jams up against the block.. sucks !
I called SCAT and they told me that it should be fine but I beg to differ.

So I am going to stick with the stock chrome crank pulley

You've definitely had your trials and tribulations. Good that you got the motor sorted out. Just a suggestion.....I would make sure that you do the front beam correctly. Re-install all of the leaves and have adjusters welded in. It is not safe to pull leaves to lower a car.

Regarding your pulley issue: I see you have a full flow oil pump for remote filter. That's likely your problem. Oftentimes, they are deeper-bodied and stick out, pushing the pulley tin aft, where the pulley itself binds against, sandwiching the Tim between pulley and pump housing.

This happened to me as well. To solve the issues, I had to cut off the aluminum fins on the end of the housing to allow the tin and pulley to seat properly.

As an after thought, don't put any faith in Scat or their products. They aren't the company they used to be, which many of us have learned from experience.

I didn't check the fins on the housing but that may be the issue.. I will try it again to see if that was the problem

On another note i noticed that you are looking for a right side front fender pre '66 and I know that there is someone that has one in NC

On another note i noticed that you are looking for a right side front fender pre '66 and I know that there is someone that has one in NC It's the perfect time to check out the pump issue, whether it be find or the body/housing itself. Seeing it all from the side with the engine out of the car makes the diagnosis so much easier. I didn't discover my own problem until I had installed my engine. I couldn't see much at that point and naturally blamed it on my aftermarket pulley, and then a stock pulley I assumed bent. It took some time to sort it all out, and then a fun time of cutting the fins off in place.

I am still in the market for a fender, yes. If you have a lead on someone trustworthy, I'd certainly appreciate the hook up. That may be the last major obstacle keeping me from new paint at this point.

On Sunday February 10th, 2013

I fabricated these round discs out of metal to fill in the turn signal holes on my front fenders

Seeing in the fitment is flush..

Looks good so now we use the mig welder:

Looking good so far:

Looks good.. now comes the grinding to make flush:

Now to cover up the Antenna hole:

Antenna Hole Welded shut:

Gonna cover up just left of the rear window cutout.. some rust here:

I had to manufacture another radio cover plate because David from Oldie Goldie Restoration stole the last one.. He kept the previous one in order to jack me up and delay my project build:

Here are some after weld photos and body filler to some low spots..

Front fender shaven of turn signals:

Lower Left side wheel well plate welded and filled smooth:

Goshen Fri Mar 15, 2013 6:58 pm

Door used USC Body filler. .. The Red Can.. good stuff.

Dent taken care of:

Rear window cutout area was welded and filled with body filler.. Not Bondo:

The car was hit on this side... it was stretched out and some welding to reinforce area and filled smooth.

Near Inspection hole was pulled to straighten:

Antenna hole was welded shut then it was filled with Body filler.. Not Bondo:

BTW .. these wheels are for sale for $400.00 .. I want to go with BRM polished chrome wheels instead.

Paco sprayed the blue mixed primer to offset the buff primer that David Hernandez had sprayed.. I remember when David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restorations said the following to me:

" I have done more in one week than anybody has ever done before "

What a Joke this guy is ... sure did more .. in a matter of a week he ripped me off of $1,000.00 and only sprayed buff primer without even prepping the car.

Sealing up the radio cutout area:

Time to prep the visors, armrest and beverage caddy to match the Maseratti Tursismo Cuiou color scheme:

Taped the chrome strip on the armrest:

Spraying the items with a great little spray gun from Harbor Freight tools:

Drying time:

Despite all of your set backs, you are still chugging along. I can tell you love this car.

Thank you..
I simply love beetles and my own project beetle I love the most.

My wife sent me the following pic by email:
She must be trying to tell me something

I have decided that I will never pay another body shop a deposit to start the work.. they will have to draw up a work order and we can sign it to close the deal.

The last body shop guy had the car for over two months and didn't do much but yet he cried about needing money to do the work..

I was at his shop April 17th and I went out of the country for 3 weeks... On May 11th i went by and he hadn't done anything to my bug in three weeks but yet he was painting a Mustang... He gave me excuses and excuses and I got tired of hearing it.

Never give a deposit to a body shop because what they do with money is go spend it or pay their rent. No more of this nonsense !!

" A paid musician does not play music "

Now I have decided to do the work myself... slowly but surely I will get it done.

I am going to finish this project car.. I will drive it for a couple of months and then it will be up for sale.

It will have the best of everything...

Just a question; How may fuses? The '67 has 10 fuses, at least in my manual. My '67 has 8 fuses. It was suggested that they used the last of the '66 parts when building '67s at the factory or at the dealership.

My '67 has the fat stainless steel '65 style trim. I like the look over skinny '67 trim.

Just to add my 2 cents.... The po painted the visors, door panels, headliner, etc... in my 67 black, they were originally off-white. After owning the car 10 years now everything looks like crap. The paint is chipping and wearing off, I can't stand it. A little elbow grease and some cleaner and I'm sure everything would have looked ok.
