It's time to move on so I am getting out of this city... I am fed up with some people here in Miami... the body shop guys seem to work the same way.. you give money up front supposedly for deposits for work to be performed but they use it to go on shopping sprees, vacations or go Christmas shopping like David did in December when i gave him $1,000.00 deposit on December 21st, 2012.
I am relocating to NYC so the bug will be up for sale this summer.
A friend of mine came by and finished the rest of the bug in less than one week.. he did all the welding and fabrication that David Hernandez never did but claimed that he had of which i have evidence and sworn statements.
Here you can see... it is in its final stage... all it needs now is for the paint guy to wet sand, tape up and paint.
Once the vw bug is done it will be up for sale.. It will have the best of everything.

I got two fenders done and they were simple to hand block sand them..
I can't believe the second body shop guy who shall be nameless didn't want to work them.. i guess he was lazy and just wanted the easy way out and take my money
A little dent on the lip.. No biggie to do... sheesh I cannot believe this guy wanted for me to buy new fenders just so he could get out of doing any work.
All done block sanding with 180.. now to spray the primer on thick .. block sand then primer again and the finish fine sanding to get ready for paint.
Here is the last coat of primer and a little more block sanding with fine grit 220
Tomorrow i will tackle the rear fenders.. two fenders per day ... that is good !! |

Those look like Empi style wheels made by Rocket Industries for the 4 that are the same. Did the wheels come with the center caps or did you have to by them?
The Jewish Guy wrote: b]The previous owner had told me that he bought this beetle without hood springs and the mounting area underneath were removed... for what reason.. I don't know.. I couldn't weld a new piece so i bought this from Home Depot for about $1.50[/b]
b]I searched far and wide some 2 months before I bought the beetle I bought these wheels about 240 miles up north near Orlando and picked up these Empi wheels. Jason who sold them to me told me these were original Empi... 4 are identical and the 5th wheel the spare is an American Eagle. $400.00 [/b]
b]Jonas "Static" or VolksMedic on this forum lowered both front and rear... I guess the '67 is not too accommodating in the rear but the front was lowered by way of Dropped spindles and thin leaves removed up front.[/b]

It only came with 3 center caps .. I had to buy the 4th center cap.. the american eagle wheel had its own center cap that is different than the rest.
The day I bought them from a guy in North Central Florida out in the boondocks somewhere which i believe i spent more on gas in dodge ram quad cab !! He showed me the difference in Empi wheels and he showed me that these are 2nd generation empis and not some other manufacturer. He had about 8 vw beetles, buses and others on his farm land. I got lost leaving his place ... no light poles out there in the great yonder ! |

Today I tackled the 2nd front fender and one rear fender.
This primer is the best...
a 2k primer @ $75.00 but man it mixes at 4:1:1
But it covers, fills, and nice build... It was used on some Porsches and every auto body guy ive spoken to really have liked this primer.
Spray Booth
My HPLV spray gun
Proper Respirator protection for Safety
Got the fender all free of dust
Here goes nothing...
There you have it
Now tomorrow friday sometime before Shabbes I will work on the last remaining rear fender plus i will be painting the back cabin wall of my 1993 Toyota Pickup Hilux ( I built this truck from a Wreck and brought it back to life as a project car since the VW bug was not moving from having to have dealt with body shop guys that took my money as deposit and then never did any work........ so I put my energy in rebuilding this mini truck...

| Those are not real Empi 5 spoke wheels, they are rocket wheels. Sorry they just aren't Empi Wheels, the guy who sold them to you lied and you fell for it. The original 5 Spoke Empi wheels were two piece and the center cap had a 5 prong, bolt on cap. The bolts lined up on each spoke and were visible from the face of the wheel (shiny part). The poster farther up was correct when he said they were a mix of Rocket Wheels and American Eagle and that explains your problem with the caps. Sorry, but at least now you have the information so you don't get screwed the next time. |

Here are the latest photos of the paint that has been laid on the decklid and the doors.. the lighting is not the best since it is inside the paint booth but hopefully tomorrow when it is a bit dry i can get a pic in the sun .. well Miami has had a lot of rain and very little sunshine..
The doors were also painted as well.
The paint is SPIES HECKER 2013 Maseratti Turismo Blue Oceano $530.00 Gal
and SPIES HECKER High Solids Clear Coat $430.00 for the 5 Liter Can
Those are retail prices and I got them at a Wholesale Discounted price

The topic is incorrect. A restoration means to bring back to original. Even the term resto-mod is a misnomer. It's just a modified car.
FYI before you paint over, or cover up etc., POR 15 has to be primed with Tie Coat Primer. |

Chris Vallone from Classic VW instructed me how to work with POR15 so its covered. And its not really a restoration because initially that was not the intention with this car since all i wanted was just a simple paint job but Thanks to David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restoration jacking my s**t up and doing nothing but just covering stuff up by spraying less than 1/4 of a gallon of primer and now all that mess that was covered up had to be redone right. |

It is on again... so my car should be ready by the end of this year December 2013.
These are the same 4 fenders, Front Hood and Decklid that David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restorations said i should buy new when he had my bug. The guy in this photo is Angel at Body Beautiful where the bug is now and Angel said that the fenders were fine as well as the other pieces .. just some minor dents that is expected with VW bugs because they are round and they just needed to be block sanded.. no big deal really but here they are. David was just too lazy to body work them and wanted more money.
Here are some of the pics of the progress...
Fenders
The Doors
Rear Decklid
Underside of the Front Hood
Here is a short video outside to appreciate the 2012 Maseratti Blue Oceano color

The doors have been painted but still need to be wet sanded and buffed to get the small miniscule dirt granules that always seem to come out of nowhere even in the best of Spray Booths.
These are the same doors that David Hernandez of Oldie Goldie Restorations said i needed to replace because they were no good but the Body Beautiful Auto Body Shop that painted these doors , fenders, decklid said there was nothing wrong with them.. all it needed as if with any VW Bug is just block sand, wet sand and paint.
The paint on here is 2012 Maseratti Gran Turismo / Blue Oceano SPIES HECKER basecoat with High Solids SPIES HECKER clear coat.
Enjoy the following pics:
This is just a little compound that has accumulated.. no problem that a small toothbrush couldn't remedy
Fenders turned out great and easy body work that the other guy said he couldnt do and needed replacement..
Here is the decklid that other guy David said he couldnt do because it needed to be replaced
You just gotta love this color:
Too much flash...

Pretty cool project. Sucks that you've gone through so much garbage with flakey people. So, are you still going to try and sell this? I gotta be honest... You may have trouble selling it for a good amount of money having converted a '67 to a '65. It is really a '67, but now isn't. Most people buying a car of this vintage are looking for a car of a specific year, not one converted. I could be wrong, but IMHO, if you wanted to restore a '65 you should have started with a '65. If what you had on hand was a '67 you should have restored it as such, even though it wasn't your first choice. I know that that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions, right?

Its cool i understand..
At the time this 67 already had '65 fenders so i just went with it.
I didnt care much for a '67 but im sure when it comes to sell it i wont have an issue selling it unless its a purist.
About the Flakey people as far as the one that im referring to you can read about it in the following link and all of his Shananigans:

| Really do not understand why people are so uptight about building cars lol u cant put a value on a car because everyones different some people like original others cant stand it a 67 converted to a 65 to me would not be an issue selling especailly if your going custom anyway its not like its original ive seen a 70 converted to a 57 oval rag and people know and yet willing to pay alot of money and honestly the majority of stock bugs that sale dont get anywhere near there build price or asking price i think any tasteful done right bug would really sale and as far as restoring in my opinion any car thats taken complete apart and redone is restoring theres different levels of restorationpeople stock to custom standards are different now most car now are not what they appear to be to be honest |

If you go with BRMS it will look very close to this:
Local guy has this, built very well, a nice show car. I like your project. Good color. Less people do chrome BRMS but I like them so go for it. my two cents |
