I also thickened up the exhaust outlet casting as well as the exhaust port flange. Here is where things stand as of now. Comments are always welcome.

Eric, undoubtedly an amazing job!!! =D>

mandraks Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:21 am

much of this awesomeness will be under the engine tins, though?

das20v Fri Feb 14, 2014 2:31 pm

Thanks Capriacci and D-Train...couldn't do it without you guys.

Mandraks: Yes/No.

YES:
1) Installed and ready-to-run configuration, you won't see much of the detail, much like a real one.

NO:
1) For the sake of eye candy here on the forum, you see it all.
2) As a model builder, you can experience all the details through the build much like a real motor and get an understanding of what makes a VW tick.
3) If you choose to, the motor could be displayed outside of the chassis and "opened up" to show it off....tins off.
4) There's something else that I will mention later. It's sort of a surprise I have up my sleeve.

das20v wrote: Fishynos, thanks for the offer. I think I have everything I need on the heads. If I get stuck, I'll let you know. I don't want you to go through trouble of presenting photos if I don't REALLY need them.

wasn't trying to be smart or anything. I'd have to make a 3 hour round trip to photograph the bare heads. My boss has a 49" 25hp engine but its assembled. I thought you may want the heads bare, if you're not fussed I can get photos of the assembled 25hp motor by monday

Fishynos, I certainly didn't think you were trying to be smart. I didn't want to trouble you unless I got stuck. I appreciate your sincerity. Thats a long drive BTW. I thought you had them in your own garage, and even then, I didn't want to trouble you.

bumping one of my favorite threads... any updates?

das20v Thu Jun 05, 2014 10:20 pm

Volksheime, I am still here. No new updates yet. As things are with the motor, it is getting close, but I haven't had any time to keep going. I will get back on it as soon as I get some more free time. Work has been keeping me tied up, but I will have an update in a few weeks perhaps. Thanks for the bump!

das20v Wed Jun 18, 2014 12:18 am

Small update here. Trying to get this up and running again. I work best on momentum with a project, so I went ahead and fixed the fuel line. I had trouble getting it to connect to the fuel pump and look right. I think I got it routed a little more realistic than before. I need to see if the ignition coil will fit behind the fuel line. Anyone have a coil? :D

D-train Wed Jun 18, 2014 1:35 am

Welcome back sir!

I have a coil, but prob not the correct one unfortunately..

I nearly thought u had gone an forgotten about us folk! Haha

Capriacci Wed Jun 18, 2014 1:49 pm

Nice to see you here again, Eric!
About the coil, do you have the correct positions of the two attachment points?

Capriacci Wed Jun 18, 2014 2:23 pm

Here we have the diameter of the "star coil"...

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2...mp;start=0

Thin: 52.2 mm

Fat: 63.8 mm

Which is correct for a 52 engine? I don“t know...

das20v Wed Jun 18, 2014 7:07 pm

Everyone, it's nice to be back.

@ D-train: Thanks bud. Nope, not gone and forgotten. I intend to finish this sucker, even if it takes another 10 years. If it's older, it might be worth more :D

@ Capriacci: About the coils, I need to read up. From a quick read, I see that there is not just one coil diameter. I think I have holes in the fan shroud mapped out already.

To save me some search grief, does anyone know what diameter coil I should be using here? I am almost tempted to go with the 52mm coil so I have less interference with the fuel line. It might be tight already. Besides, who would be able to tell?

I will need a coil length; the "can body" portion. Once I have the measurements, I should be able to get a coil bolted on to that pristine fan shroud really quick.

Capriacci Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:41 pm

Unfortunately I only have the "fat" one... :?
(diameter confirmed: 63.8 mm )

das20v Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:23 am

Thank you Capriacci. Done! I bent the fuel line just a bit, but she fits.

D-train Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:34 am

Wow! That was quick!!

das20v Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:45 am

I need to tweak the coil top still. I realized that the stamped 3-pointed "star" shape is not quite right. I'll play with it tomorrow.

D-train Thu Jun 19, 2014 2:21 am

On a roll now!! Keep the momentum!!!

das20v Thu Jun 19, 2014 10:19 am

Fixed!
