I think this should work a lot better than the silly Haynes manual lol |

I'm going through to see what I might be missing on my ECU pinout but otherwise it is set to go. I bought a Bosch O2 sensor and I'm going to be adding that to the loom. The only thing left would be the speed sensor.
Kind of a boring moment right now. I also placed my first HID headlight in. I need to figure out a good way to mount the projector. It basically has the glass face of the halogen sealed bulb and the projector to protect the bulb.
I still need to look around to find a small rad but also the ac unit that is smaller as well.
Basically only have time to do work on the weekends....oh well. |

When I did my engine swap when I was 17yr (2.8L Ford V-6 in a '70 Bug) I think I use a 1982 Camaro radiator. I'm 41 now But, Think that was the one. I put 2 electric fans on the radiator with thermal switches. It fit in the same spot as the spare.
Too bad you didn't go turbo I could of got your aftermarket engine parts cheaper. |

Wouldn't those be narrow but tall? I was thinking about Joel's 20"x10" or slightly bigger but it's a bit hard to get dimensions because a lot of places just say what car it goes into or just the basic specs :/
I had thought about that lol
I think later on I will go to a turbo setup but I need to find ways to keep as much of the body as possible |

The one I used is a 1996 mazda Miata radiator, 12.62 by 25.31 inches it has 1.25 in and outlets which I think will be fine Subaru is 1.5in. I have about a half an inch on each side of the radiator before it hits the bumper brackets. It sits a little high but I could of dropped it down if I got rid of the crumple zone, I think it has about 4 inches before it hits the hood maybe less but it clears just fine. |

Look at Mk1 Golf/Scirocco ones for 8 valve engine, the 16 valve ones are smaller
they are around the same size as my Alfa one only slightly taller.
THere are heaps of sellers on ebay that sell them custom aluminium tigged racing radiators for cheap.
Wishing I had of gone one of them now, so much cheaper than a genuine Alfa one. |

Mike at RMW said the speed sensors are made and sent off to get powder coated.

So I found a Scirocco radiator 22x13 dual pass aluminium racing rad on amazon Ill probably buy. I've been looking at an AC condenser that is roughly the same size and so far this is what I've come up with.
Porsche Boxter
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/a-fs-c_condenser/porsche/boxster.html
Toyota Corolla
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_years/toyota-corolla-a-c-condenser-2007.html
And Porsche 911
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_years/porsche-911-a-c-condenser-1999.html
I looked at ones that came on the scirocco but either the dimensions are bigger or it wouldn't have details about the condenser.
I will try to get the harness set up in the beetle this weekend since it is almost done. If I could get some help with the ECU pinout I would appreciate it. I posted the pictures of the diagram but I don't really know what all is needed on there. If you do look at the diagram, the green highlighted pins are what I have, grey/yellow is what I don't (either wasn't there or it ran to something that was removed from the harness.)
I know I need to add the speed sensor and the pre-cat O2 sensor and that is about all that I believe is needed.
Thanks again for all the help!! |

You're making a lot of extra work and cost for yourself trying to use an OEM A/C condenser.
They are designed for OEM fittings so to use any of those you would need the aluminium hard lines from those cars then silver solder hose fittings on.
They make Universal condensers with flare nut fittings in about every size you can imagine.
I just got a 20x12 one for mine, cost about $80 new.
Something like this is what you want

Sorry for the long delay everyone. I have been working on my beetle as much as I can since the last update but thanks to the winter weather and a busy work schedule things have slowed down in the meantime (Drive 64 miles per day to/fro work and an additional 20 to visit my poor little beetle).
I have done more wiring, readied the trunk for the coolant system, finished the headlight upgrade, and I also have free $1000 tires from my brother that I will replace the stock tires with. They were off his 91 Talon and they are DWS tires that I believe are 235/17/40? A lot wider and better grip for all that increase in power lol
Ill have more pics as they come (vacationing at the moment).
Hopefully there will be better weather to permit me some more work time, but it's hard to tell with this Oregon weather... |
