I have one on mine and I live in CA desert and have driven in stop an go for a bit in 112 to 120 temps and it was fine. I have also seen a blazecut in jeeps, pick ups etc. |

For those who have installed this by attaching it to the wire mesh that is underneath the foam on the engine lid, how's it seem? Pretty secure?
I’d hate to have it come loose and land on top of the motor! |

I had also a kind of concern about the heat just over the engine
Would it be quite let’s say colder or less hot far on the perimeter, attach with tye-rap on the perimeter coolant line ?

The unit goes off at a sustained 248°F -- that sounds about right to me for 'way too hot, something's wrong'.
I have driven with mine for many miles in 100+ heat - also sat in traffic in those conditions - so far no false positives. |

There is an anecdote somewhere on here about one going off in a border crossing waiting line, with predictable results. So unless it was defective or poorly placed (too close to the exhaust? EGTs are higher than 248°F, no?) I wonder how it happened? |

What is the longevity for these things/how long before the "meter" on them reads zero? Are they trash after that? About to buy one but just wondering how often I will be replacing it. |

The gauge on mine doesn't read right. I would guess as long as you can see liquid in there, you're good |

Doesn't read right in what way?
I guess my secondary question is more along the lines of "why is there a gauge?" Is the tube itself pressurized all the time yet still flexible and the gauge shows how the pressure leaks out over time, rendering the blazecut useless? |

It's not accurate. It will never be unless you know the temp & barometric pressure it was calibrated at (& have a conversion chart). It would be live having a pressure gauge on a Bic lighter or a propane tank on your backyard grill - these's no point. Heavy = burgers; light = going to Home depot for a new bottle. The best way to check it would be to weight it if you cant see it (or the air bubble). That's how similar liquid-gas vessels (for lack of a better term) are checked for leaks or usage - Halon for example. The other way is a float gauge with a magnetic reading (sealed) |

The gauge is basically like a dashboard idiot light, it will show you if the Blazecut is good or not. If gauge is showing no pressure, then I wouldn't expect it to do me much good in a fire. I've had mine for at least a few years and last I checked was a few months ago and it was still holding pressure. So yes, the tube holds pressure, while still remaining flexible for the install... |

Mine went off…I guess it was two days ago on a hot highway run. Opened the lid just now to look at something else and it was blown like a circuit breaker.
Activation temp is 250°F/120°C so if there was any doubt this motor has been running hot, I think I can set that aside. |

I bet that got your attention when it blew. What's the mess/aftermath like? I haven't checked but is it a simple hose off with water deal or does it cause damage that requires more effort to clean up? |
