WHEEL SIZES:
OEM is 15" x 4.5" or 15" x 5.5"
you can run the 700x15 or 235/75 on the OEM rims as seen on most "Baja" fronts and "Class 11".
It would be in your best interest to run 6" wide rims with these tires to prevent folding the tire over on a hard corner.
A general thought for safe tire use is to not go more than 3" over your rim width with the tire's section width
i.e. a 235/75R15 tire has a section width of 9" on a 6" rim (this is the 3" limit).

There are a few of us in SoCal running the Hercules HDT 7.00x15 up front too. Been a great tire for me. They are not as expensive as some of the other brands. I can pick them up locally for $80 bucks each.

*not an expert on this. Most of the offroad bred Yokohama tires (rally, Baja, etc..) are not DOT approved, so they might not be legal (how much of your Baja is DOT approved??). Plus the tread wouldn't push water through it properly, so you have the danger of hydroplaning, and the road wear would be a lot faster than most tires (bad if you drive on the interstate). Basically you could do it, but do it at your own risk.

Does anyone happen to have a lead on those Remington Pacemarks? I'd love a set of A 205/75/R14 offroad tires to drop under my Thing. Plus the whitewall would look darn cool. Their website doesn't work and google isn't turning up anything... The Interco's are always an option too, three tires would fit fairly well (more expensive with less tread life though).

When I bought my rear wheels, they had a pair of 12 year old BFG AT's on them. 25% tread left, dry rot, and more than a few plugs in them. I left them on because I wanted to try out the tire size. A year later, 5 desert trips (I flat tow out there too), thousands of freeway miles and the BFG's are still going. I popped the bead on one and figured it was over. Nope. Cleaned the sand out and it's back on. I gotta say that it's one tough tire.

We currently have BFG A/T's on, and they are good tires.

Anywho, another great tire you missed, the General Grabber AT2. Similar tread pattern to the BFG, but cheaper. It also has great reviews and is a good overall tire. In fact, I plan on getting a set for my Jeep this summer.

I'm running the Nankangs all the way around, and I must say that they are not the best rear tire to have...They get me stuck quite a bit in pine needly snow, wet muddy slate, and even sometimes on slick inclines...But the price was right, and they're that nice narrow fit on your stock swingaxle tube'd '65 that I needed...At the Ranch Run a 4 Wheel Parts dude was there and he said that the o.g. Superswampers come in a 31x8.5 15...I'm thinking that's my next set of rears right there...
