View original topic: A very simple, reliable engine build - carb choice?

So I'm just pulling apart my bus engine for an overhaul and a rebuild to give it a little more power, It's not going to, intended to have a tonne more power. Just a bit of torque for puling a loaded camper around the UK.

I'm sticking with the single port option as i want it to look period and in keeping with the bus. I know...dual ports are better, but I'm operating within some self imposed contraints.

1600cc
Single port heads. Will get a mild porting job / angle cut valves etc. to make them flow better, but will stick with std sized valves.
Heads flycut to get 8.1 comp
scat c25 cam, scat 1:25 lifter on a bolt up shaft. Would always go bolt up, so no real extra cost in making them 1:25. Pushrods will be cut to length for geometry.
Std crank, std flywheel, but bottom end will be dynamically balanced from front nut to gland nut (end to end, everything including clutch)
Balanced con-rods
Full flowed, double thrust bearings etc.
Vintage speed exhaust system

So it will be a solid little engine expected to rev no more than a stocker, but making a bit more torque to reduce gear changes and loss of speed on a mild incline..

The question is what carb / carbs? Stock single? Twin ict's, PDsit's, something else that I hadn't thought of?

All advice on the carbs welcome. :)

ICT's FRD's, Kadrons, and 35mm Solex should all work well, the biggest issue for any of them is finding the s/p manifold

Ict and pdsit kits are readily available though right in single port form.

Anyone ever used the empi version of ict's? Standard empi junk?
Also, 34 or 35mm solex? Only seen the cb kits which are 34mm.

Kads are probably overkill for this almost stock engine I'd guess?

Some people don't like Kadrons, but I'm running a set that came with this car and think they work well and are easy to tune. Maybe I got lucky. I've also had ICTs and 40IDFs. I'd pick Kadrons over ICTs because they are larger and more tunable.

I don't mind Kads at all I have a pair prepared by aj Simms fitted to my 1914 engine.

I just figured they'd be bigger than needed for this engine spec.
