Rebuilding a stock late model Beetle fuel injected engine and there are 2 different Mahle sets. Is one better than the other and why?
311 198 069 FFG Engine Piston Set w/ Forged Pistons
311 198 069 F Engine Piston Set Flat; CR 7.7:1
And don't say the bottom because the top only comes with one piston ;) |

Glenn, the top forged ones are better but on a stock engine they are over kill.
You got my second gift, yes? |

I'd go with AA myself. The Mahle sets I've run across have been unsightly and off out of the box. I thought I remember hearing that AA was making the Mahle sets these days? |

Heard the same thing about AA and Mahle being the same thing.
The cast pistons have longer skirts, so they'll need to be trimmed if using a C/W crank. I would vote on the forged set, just because of the lean tune of the stock FI system and the higher head temperatures.
Also, because of the a/f ratio, I believe it's important that the static compression gets set per the manual. |
