from p2

otahuhu wrote: it looks like D has only one rear jack point? visible in some of the other photos, all the rest have two incl the one on the trailer [J] with the round jack points

Jack point design looks to be a good clue to identifying the first couple of prototypes.

they probably did not realize till later on that you might need a front jackpoint in case the cargo area is full. On an empty bus front jackpoints are useless

Capriacci wrote: Sorry, not one Prototype, but curiously the front emblem screwed from outside and the finger pull on the sliding glass - with butterfly latch - are visible

so it seams the very early ones had some prototype units still using.

About the "vent window latch knob"

Could be the lower one knob?

from topic "Are they Split Window Pop out latches?" : http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2294868

I'm sorry but my contribution is merely an observational one again but I don't think this has been raised.

So it looks like on the front doors the rear window slid forward and had a finger recess in the glass at the front and rear to pull push the glass and the front window is the fixed one. Also the seal was on the outer window and not the inner window to allow it to slide..Its open on these two pictures although neither bus in the top pic looks to have the seal installed at all.

and while you can see the seal bar clearly on the one above, it being on the outer window is very clear to see on this one

looks like this early production prototype bus then had a mixture of both or maybe the rear window stolen form an earlier model with the recess. Note the sealing bar has been swapped to the rear inner glass the same as the production models of "now".

Fantastic pictures, especially the "new" ones that are surfacing

but the "recess" is on the outer window. so i guess this is the very early production line bus. later on they checked, the recess is not nessesary..

Not the same as the very early model

for me they look like later ones. like you can see here, there is also a knob above.

johnny d Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:13 pm

i also like the window surrounding. it seams they used the screwed version on the cargo and inside the bus. nice..

johnny d Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:35 pm

do we have already this one?

so it could be a split popout latch??

the knob looks the same to me.

A new picture but yes, that's Prototype A from p1

RockStock wrote: Left, Prototype 'A' (a Kombi - signwritten 'Klein-Bus'/Small Bus - single colour - white - chrome trim)

What is the word after 'Der'?
This bus A looks like the Kombi version of the Panel Van G.
