I say it like "calm bee" but I hear folks say "comb bee" also. And the word sekurit, does it mean "secure" "it"? Like if you close the window, you are securing the heat inside. I also find it quite peculiar that the Volkswagen company doesn't say "Folks" "Vagen" in their own commercials, does Chevrolet say it differently in other countries?

depends on which country you're in.

But I think every country has some form of calm-bee

VW was not involved in the Battle of Kombi, a decisive battle in the war between Ndongo-Matamba and Portugal during the Dutch period of Angolan history.

The L in calm is silent.

Try thinking germanically or afrikaansically (???)

Kom as in commander, committee, commissaire and especially kommandant! but not co like that donkey Colin Powell who can't pronounce his own name properly ;)

Bi as in bumble bee, spelling bee, Beebee gun bee

Add I a bit of ze harsh guttural Teutonic cadence

Kombi

No a's, h's or l's.

K o m b i - pronounced as spelled

My bus was 9 years old when that song was released. Geez, that song is old

Men At Work – Down Under Lyrics
"Traveling in a fried-out combie"

And in the pronunciation of the L in calm there is an east coast/west coast difference

On the east coast the L may be silent, but on the west coast, the L is there, but very quiet. Something like the R difference in New York and New Yawk.

what does kombie mean ?

Xevin Thu Jan 01, 2015 9:59 pm

Kombi, from German: Kombinationskraftwagen (combination motor vehicle), with side windows and removable rear seats, both a passenger and a cargo vehicle combined.

Best I can do. Hope this helps.
