Well I guess it's time to start something for my new van. I just bought an SCA zwitter roof syncro with lot's of ProjektZwo goodies on it, headlights, running lights, wheels and steering wheel. It's an '88 and I got it from the original owner, it's in original paint with no rust and only 95k kms on the van. It's got a digifant 2.1 motor and front and rear lockers, the gearbox was replaced 20k kms ago. I wanted a diesel but with everything else this van has going for it I was willing to over look that. The owner made his own camping interior, which I'm normally against, but this one kinda spoke to me. It's all in cherry wood and appears to be well made. I like that it reminds me of an old wooden sailboat inside. The rear seat fabric is horrible but I can fix that later.
The van came out of Vienna Austria and is currently in Busmans hands waiting to get on a boat to bring it to me. These are all photos that the seller sent to me. I'll of course be posting more once I get it here in a few weeks. I can't wait to take this thing out to the coast for a surf trip and then up into the mountains. I sold my splitty about 4 months ago and have been looking for something like this every day since. I've missed out on a couple of awesome vans but I think this is the best one I've come across so it's worth it. Take a look and more to come.

Awesome find! I really like the SCA hightop pop tops! Not so keen on their interior compared to Westies, but that home made job is still really nice.
So this one was originally a tiptop panel van that had the SCA top put on?
Looks like you will have lots of fun with that! |

Thanks everyone.
Christopher, do you know the color for this? I've been trying to figure it out but can't quite tell from the different color temps in the photos he sent me. It's not a standard Dove blue and not quite Orly blue. I was thinking maybe it's one of the European only colors? |

I'm 99.9% positive that the color is Slate Blue code LH5V. To the best of my knowledge, we never officially saw that color brought in to the US. |

Dan, way to hold out for what you wanted. Pop top hightop, is very cool. I'm sold on being able to stand in the van with out popping the top. My top bunk is very small. Your SCA is very nice. I think that interior may provide a sweet time for you too. I love my over the front cab storage. You have one too. The diesel is nice. I have my 1.6 JX turbo tuned up now. It is cool. The current price of diesel you may come out way ahead with the 2.1? I will third the color, Slate Blue. I have a van if I decide to restore will get that color. I see A plus all over your rig.
Congratulations |

Yeah, I'm not too upset with the 2.1. I have a DJ112 2.1 already. It's a rough runner and I can't find electronics for it anywhere in the states. So yeah, this one has less power but we actually have parts for the digifant motors here. I'm kind of torn between leaving the original motor in this van or just going with the 1.8t as soon as possible. I think after driving my 2.4wbx tin top that the 2.1 in a camper is going to be rough for me. A 1.8t sounds just right. Maybe I'll pull the WBX and store in the garage in case they ever become like original motor splitties. At least then I'll have it still.
And I totally love the color as well. |

Very very very nice.
You are welcome to try the 1.8t out in my syncro westy if you have any hesitation. |

Cool, what are the indents for on the rear panel where the windows would normally go? |

Theadventureneverends, that's a very generous offer. I may take you up on that some time. I've driven a 1.8t tintop and it was marvelous. I'd be interested in seeing how it handles something heavier.
taraandusVDub, the moose sticker is staying for sure.
Mayor, this almost certainly started life as a panel van from the factory and panels came with those upper vents.
Busman just told me how great this van drives so once I get it I'll have to see how apt I am to take apart a perfectly running van. |
