Is it the type of combustion chamber that u will use?!

A.J. said to me that it's so nice for turbo aplications... for about 75cc

Hehehehe...
Can you guess?!
A.J. =P - The mage of cyl heads  HohOhOho!
75cc ....

Oi, Fillipe!

That is the biggest combustion chamber I've ever seen! Mine are CB 044 Magnum's, with 42X37.5 valves, and the chamber is 65cc. Combined with a .040" copperhead gasket, and flushed pistons, I get somewhere around 7.6:1 compression. It could be done like in the picture as well, just without the copperhead.

Lol! You said "Oi"!!!
Are you brazilian?! hehehe
So...did you use the heads w/o modifications?! Or u made a new chamber, intake ports...did you so any work in your heads?! I guess you used it as "plug and play", right?!
I'm thinking about build a 2.1L or 2.3L T EFI engine and wanna know all about turbo heads!
Ty!

No, I'm not brazilian, I just like typing different languages from time to time! :D

I could have typed 'hola', or 'buongiorno', as I speak both spanish and Italian, but since you're from brazil, I figured it was appropriate to greet you with 'oi'!

Anyway, no, I didn't use the heads 'out of the box'. I did check all the chambers, and they were all set perfectly at 65cc. They needed some minor work in the valve pockets to correct some things that CB didn't do, but other than that, they were pretty good. I think a little work on anything but finished heads from a pro is to be expected, it's just how it is with VW heads.

I could have gone with a little deck, and opened the chambers up a little bit, but I wanted the freedom to either increase or decrease my C/R down the road, and using copperhead gaskets was the easiest way to do this. You never know, I may end up going with more C/R to get better off boost throttle response. It just depends how the engine performs.

i did this on my tiny engine, but larger engines usually don't need it in street driving...(you never really said what the displacement was, but i'm *assuming* large stroker?)

My current engine project will be built mild(much like the one you dissed!!) for streetable power, and let the boost handle the high output i want....project is looking good mini.

'Nother update. I've been repairing the tinware lately, seems like every single pair of cylinder tins are cracked right where the 2 screws go in next to the intakes.
Had to weld them to fix all the cracks. Next, I had to trim the lower back part of the shroud, to allow clearance for the backwards end castings. Also had to do a fair amount of trimming to the Made in Taiwan fan shroud (yes it has the vanes inside) where it meets the case.

It's starting to look like a real engine now!
Sorry for the bad pics, I didn't feel like ruining the expensive camera with all the dust and whatnot. I'll get some hi-res ones once everything's done and in the car.

Next, I've got to pull the 1955 out of the Bug, so I can start trimming the package tray for the new engine. Once I get everything installed, it'll be time for wiring and a little plumbing. Hopefully after that, I'll be ready to break this thing in, and start tuning!

You're right! I can't believe I forgot! It's a 1915; nitrided 69mm C/W crank, 94m Mahle's, 42X37.5 044 Mags, and 'special' cam....

Looks like electronic ignition too! I'd like to see pictures of how you mounted the tooth wheel and sensor for that once you've got it all together.

total cost is up too...

If you only count the parts needed to put EFI+Turbo on an engine you already have, I'm still well under a grand at this point.

I didn't factor in other things I have bought to help with the project, like the MIG welder, helmet and gas ($1,000), consumables (grinding disks, cutoff wheels, sheet metal, ect), and tools.
I only had to get that stuff because I wanted to change some things about the design of the system, so if you wanted to use off the shelf parts, like CB's hideaway header, it could be done for less.

For example:
Hideaway header-$245
CB EFI end castings- ~$175 (more after you buy the XRP fittings and braided lines, less if you use rubber hose and hose barbs from the hardware store). You could always modify stock end castings to take injectors to save $$$....
MSEFI kit- complete and ready to run, were talking somewhere around $300, to be on the safe side. You'll need things like wire, heat shrink, ect.
When it comes to intake, you can fab your own for next to free, modify a carb to be a TB, whatever.

Then there's the 5 and dime stuff....that's what starts to add up.

KEEP IT COMING !!! I actually have the FULL CB FI/Turbo Hidaway on my 2110 and am SERIOUSLY considering MS's management system.

VERY NICE WORK !!! 8)

Just saw you are from lemoore ?? Are you affiliated with Lemoore Air Coolers ???

Kinda/sorta.
I used to be pretty active with them, but I don't really go on many trips with them anymore. Last thing I did was the 2005 show in Bakersfield, CA. It's hard to make time to go to car club events, or even events in general with my schedule. The Navy keeps me away from my cars as much as possible.

If you are considering going with MS, go for it. I looked at pretty much all the systems out there, and you just can't beat MS for the price. Especially if you don't mind doing some soldering and fabrication. Since you already have EFI, all you'd need to do is patch MS into your existing harness and go.

Turbo Farviknugn Tue Oct 30, 2007 6:48 pm

I checked with CB yesterday and they want $1,300.00 for their NEW ECU and wiring harness. DEFINATELY gonna use the MEAGSQUIRT i just need to see if it is compatible with MSD I am not too sure about the wheel sensor and the edis 4 thing that part i'll have to think long and hard about. :?

miniman82 Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:56 pm

MS can run an MSD box, but you have to use a distributor. MS drives the MSD using the white wire.

Definitely a different setup than I have seen before.

I found this setup on the net somewhere. Looks pretty simple and it uses the existing header and dual carb setup.

miniman82 Fri Nov 09, 2007 3:42 am

Looks like a custom setup that also uses some off the shelf parts, like CB pressure ducts, Y-pipe, ect. Looks to be designed for a buggy, otherwise the muffler would be pointing into the side if the engine compartment!

miniman82 Fri Nov 09, 2007 3:59 am

Time for more updates with crappy pics.
Sorry, but I'm saving the nice ones for when it's finished.

Found the turbo I'm gonna run the other day, $100 at the junkyard!

Yeah right! That thing's wayyyy too big. I'm actually hoping to convince my buddy to use it on his '65
Nova project (you reading this Cameron?)

Anyhow...
Got the engine in the car, so I was tooling around with installing the fuel pump, and routing a few
lines today. Finally found a spot I was happy with for the pump; right next to the driver's side valve
cover.
Also put the header on, just to make sure everything fit like it was supposed to. Had the turbo oil feed
line made at Carquest for a couple bucks, and installed that.
Very soon, I'll be done with the fuel system (need to mount the pressure regulator, and route a return
line still). Then it's on to wiring, and hopefully a successful first run! 8)

Pay no attention to the faux distributor, it's only there to fill the hole. Gotta find someone to machine
me a billet replacement piece for that...

oopseyesharted Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:16 am

this looks amazing man. cant wait to see how this runs!!!!!

bpritchert87 Fri Nov 09, 2007 8:50 am

yup now you can say that you have a flux capitor in that beast... lol no not really i suppose you could call it a turbo... lol

Filipe Fri Nov 09, 2007 9:51 am

And about the intercooler?! Where's it?! :?

miniman82 Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:56 pm

Filipe wrote: And about the intercooler?! Where's it?! :?

I'm hoping to be able to mount it under the car, between the axle tube and the chassis. If I can't find room for one, I'll just intercool it chemicaly with meth. 8)
It'll take some clever ducting and piping, I'm confident I'll be able to figure something out.

I don't normally say negative stuff but I think that system looks like poop. The turbo is hanging on the end of lanky pipes, plumbing everywhere you look. No wonder he's selling it. Here's the ad. Shoulda done it right the first time.
