I have decided to use the MS1 with my turbo setup, but I have few questions about throttle bodies
What kind of throttle body r u using???
Is there any problem placing the throttle body before the turbo???

Mini.....ditch that oil supply hose going to the turbo. It's not rated for the temperature. If it fails.......you're gonna be sick. Use a teflon lined/SS braided hose, or something rated for at least 300*F. Ic an build you one if you need one. |

It's double jacketed braided steel 5000 psi hyd hose, I'm sure it's up to the task.
I wouldn't just throw any old hose on, Carquest happened to have hydraulic hose facilities on site, so I went that route. The guy said even if the outer jacket melts, it's still got 2 more layers to go, that good enough for me. |

Carquest needs to stick to autp parts. They know squat about hose specs. I'm here to tell ya as a guy that does HOSE AND FITTINGS every day.....it's only rated for 212 deg. Dbl jacket means squat. What's the jacket??? Rubber? LOL.....Seriously, Auto parts stores that take on building hyd. hose and fittings have a bad reputation for knowing what they're doing......I hear it all the time. Peace of mind is worth a few dollars more. |

Regards,
I'm using the TB from an 8 valve GTI, mounted to a sheet steel intake. Not sure why you would want to put the TB before the turbo though, it would need a carbon seal to avoid drawing oil into the intake. I'd rather do it after the turbo, so you can run a BOV. |

Finally, after 6 hours of work tonight, IT RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the fuel pump in backwards, which explains lack of pressure, and I had to mess with the firing order a lot in order to get it to fire, But IT RUNS!!!! I'm so happy, finally I'm almost at the end of this project, and soon I'll be driving it!!
Videos to come tomorrow. I was by myself tonight, and I don't think the neighbors would have liked the straight pipe exhaust for 20 mins during break in at midnight. |

Here's the vid, PM me if the link doesn't work. I'm unframiliar with putfile, I only used it because the server that had my homepage said it was too big!
Remember, this is a new engine, this is my first EFI install, and I didn't even know if the timing advance would work, but it did!!!
I only had to fix a few oil leaks after the run.
:D :D :D

Yeah, I noticed that too! I though for sure that with the big cam and low compression (over 275 degs with 7.2 compression), I was headed for a dog of an engine at low RPM. I guess the EFI and good design of the intake lent itself to smooth low RPM running, only more tuning will tell. I haven't even started to tune it yet, it was running off whatever values were in the computer, much like the first time you install a new set of carbs, and have to figure out what jets you're gonna need. :D |

I'll be tuning the crap out of it in the next few days, at first at low boost settings (non-intercooled). Then after I find a way to mount and plumb the intercooler for Filipe( ), I'll take it to 15#'s, and see how that feels
If IAT's are still low, and there's no detonation, I see no reason to stop at 15....
Might be hard to find a track to go to, but I should be able to get a few dyno pulls in. |
