The idea of a Super Stock 1600 class is intriguing. At least to me it is.

They tried this 30 years ago. Almost no cars showed top for the class. No one wanted to spend huge money to go slow. I can't remember the exact name of the class, but it was something like Super Stock 1600.

The peashooter class exists...

Nothing like that class. This was like Super Street, pan based, 1500lb minimum, but with a 1600 cc displacement. You don’t save any money when you have to build a motor that can rev to 10,000 rpm to make power. Think they were running in the 12’s. Here is a picture of Genesis. This was featured in Hot VW’s and I think was the first car built for the class. Fred Simpson’s Performance Technology was the class sponsor.

^^^^ I like that! Thanx for the update...

I love it when BFB brings back old interesting threads!
Us younger Samba noobs missed out on the good stuff of the vw heydays.

BFB, keep them coming!

I figure I'll start with 6500rpm and gradually reach for more.

Using Formula Vee for a template I reckon I'll start with an 8 doweled stock crankshaft. No counterweights.

Then I'll shitcan the Formula Vee template. I don't need to satisfy a tech inspector.

10,000rpm and grabbing all I can get is a stretch. 6500rpm under development should be less so.

How hard can it be?

Start with the math. Figure out how big your throat needs to be to get a 1600cc up to your peak RPM. Then work backwards to figure the valve size, and then build the heads to work with that throat diameter.

The heads will be the hardest part. They will need to be top notch to get it all to work right. Tossing on a set of big valve 40x35 won't cut it.

This guy made 380HP at the wheels. Maybe copy this recipe ? Just like Brian said "Tossing on a set of big valve 40x35 won't cut it "

That's a turbo. Turbocharging is like cheating. Sloppy ports, ugly combustion chambers? Just blow on it real hard, no finesse required.

Due to the nature of the beast turbos are better bigger than smaller. It's just a tiny low compression motor until the boost hits.

Who sells lightweight piston pins?

cp caroillo sells good piston pins, in many flavors

The best way to make a piston pin lighter is to make it shorter (redesign the piston to use a shorter pin)
