Hello, i am planing to build a 1600 with a stock crank with welded counterweights a scat c25 cam and 2 36 dellortos , do you think that i need 8 dowels?? Or will i be fine with a chromoly nut? Also do you think i need a lighter flywheel ?? It will be on a beetle.. |

Yes you need to 8 dowel the crank and flywheel. With better carburation and more than stock cam engine will be able to accelerate faster then a stock engine.
I prefer a lighter weight flywheel with a counterweight crankshaft because of the larger rotating mass of the crankshaft. Just my opinion.
There is a thread on here about a lightweight vs. stock weight flywheel with a counterweighted crankshaft. |

Yes... there is a thread about lightening the flywheel but i didn't find one that would specify when you need to 8 dowel the crank |

Are there any dood and bad quality flywheels? Should i be concerned for a 1600? |

This one thread that talks about flywheel weight.

I am presuming you are using a 200mm flywheel. Stay with either a stock VW forged or aftermarket Chromoly flywheel.
Stay away from a cast flywheel. |

Get everything balanced. Your engine will thank you with longevity. |

Ι will certainly balance everything but i am not sure about lightening the flywheel |

Get a OEM German flywheel remanufactured/lightened by someone that knows what they are doing like DPR |

I for one would not waste the $$ on a welded crank, especialy for a stock stroke. stroke it, get a chromoly 4340 crank from china. and any weight flywheel you want. I think heavy will be fine if your not after the ultra high reving class racer... as far as the extra rotating mass of a counter weighted crank.....I just dont see it. it's not out far enough to do squat. the light flywheels have the material removed from the outer most edge where it does the most good. have it all ballanced and prep everything right, deburr the cam lobes slot the lifter bores, use a 30 mm pump add the extra oil gally if you can.use the oe spring on the relief piston by the pully and the booster spring neer the flywheel. use total seal rings if possiable.dee tooth the cylinder hone job with 400-600 wet with your hand so it dosent eat up your rings. just about 2 min per cylinder with hot soapy watter will do then wsh throughly. good luck and have fum, do it right do it one time and be done have fun forget about it. |

I will use the p&c from an engine I built with 5.000 miles on it i am also planning to full flow the engine and use a c25 cam |
