It's a 3 bolt/flat cam, with just 280 stamped into it, nothing else. Seemingly stock 1600 in a VW recycle case.

Dunno, but you should drain the oil before pulling the oil pump.

Could be anything. If it is that important, pull the engine and disassemble it all.

What I noticed was the wear marks on the cam slot,
like maybe the drive tang of the oil pump isn't fully engaged deep enough in the slot in the cam.

Yeah, saw that too. I have a dished pump that I want to put in, but saw the cam and decided not to, although i should have measured the depth.
