View original topic: Different Plugs for different cylinders

I have a 1970 Type 3 SB, and I found out I have two different spark plug types; Bosch W8AP for cylinders 1 and 2, and Bosch W8AC for Cylinders 3 and 4 (just replaced with the NGK BR6HS per Autozone and Pepboys). Is this normal or at least not uncommon?

Buying distributor wires has also been quite the adventure as the plug types are different too.

Thanks!

Not a usual practice to have miss match plugs... All four should be same

Could be they were trying to solve a combustion problem on one side... Or only could afford 2 plugs...

Here is basics of plugs... mainly you have two copper electrodes and 2 platinum electrodes... Heat range is the same...

Thanks Dale.

I am not sure what they were doing, but the thread is definitely different, as if they rethreaded the passenger side.

I got everything back together, but now cannot find the keys! I have to get the number off the handles and try to get more made. I have been packing the house, so no idea where the originals are, but will probably find them in about a year. :)

I find the "rethread" comment disturbing since you put in the NGK plug and the are same thread diameter/pitch/ length as the Bosch...

Ummm.... The "W" will be diameter and thread pitch (M14x1.25) of plug and the "A" will be thread length (12.7mm) .... The AP and AC plugs should have same thread pitch/diameter/length... Dont understand your comment as to them being different.....
