View original topic: Weber 48 IDA help Identify

I got this pair of IDA's a while back, and always assumed that they were Italian (as I was told by respected hobbiest), but without being stamped, I want to make sure. I'll be selling them and want to give an accurate description of them; hopefully from the pics, etc, we can determine that.
As you will see, they are unstamped, just say 'Weber Made In' with no stamp.

I looked through past threads and could find anything.

Also, I added the Berg Manifolds, fuel lines and the JayCee parts afterward, myself.

Thank you for the help.

Look like Spanish made ones.

Made in Spain. Here is Weber made in Italy

Spanish say made in Spain. I vote that they are the made in USA ones. The lesser of the three, Italy, Spain then USA. Someone probably added the studs to make them look Italian. They are made by Interco, they pay a license fee to Weber to make them. Only real Webers are Italian and Spanish. Italian factory basically moved to Spain.

thank you for the replies.
I'm not sure when the USA ones started being made, but I know between me and the previous owner have owned them for some time, before any of the stuff you see advertised today.
I don't see where they've been modified, but anything's possible.

I would say you accelerator discharge pumps are held in place by screw where as the later ones just slip in and held in place by rubber o rings. The Italian of any model is far better than the later ones or the empi style. I have several sets however I still have the first set I purchased in 1968 and the still work excellent. 6.93 @ 101.35 in 1/8 mile.

The Interco ones have been made for a long time. I had a set from early 90's and they were used when I got them. Here's a pic of my Spanish one. They use the same tooling as Italian's used. There isn't a difference except the name but some will say the Italians are better.

honest question.... Does country of manufacture make much of a difference?

I have a pair of Spanish IDA's on my engine. Another difference to note I think is the throttle shaft bearings. On later IDA's (Spanish at least) the shafts have sealed bearings with no leather cover like the early IDA's. IMO this is an improvement on the design. My IDA's were gone through by Art Thraen. I recently took them apart and cleaned them and noticed the difference in bearings.

There what I refer to as the "made in blank" IDA's assembled in the US from parts made in who knows where , and yes as Jason put it there the lesser of the three.
