| Hey Samba! I've been researching reputable places to buy longbocks at for about the past 4 months now. I've come across people getting mixed quality with JCS, Gex, and Mofoco so I'm not sure that I would take any of those routes. Can you guys suggest places I can get a quality longblock from based on your experience? Sorry for a repeat thread, but I figured I would get some direct contact about reputable vw sellers. Thank you all for your advice and expertise! |

Is there no one in Portland? I would think that local would be best in case there are any warranty issues if you cannot assemble such yourself.
Imagine having to remove engine and ship it back because of an oil pump issue, for example !!! Would such be required, or would rebuilder pay for local shop to fix?
Anyway, I've not read much good about GEX; Roy from Mofoco posts here and seems legitimate and faithful in follow-throw to me. I haven't heard or read anything about JCS.
I've just started the process of bringing my 1970 VW back to driveability after it has sat 23 years; if I need new heads (likely because each has had 2 rear studs drilled out and re-tapped to 8 x 1.25mm), Mofoco will be considered, they make their own in USA. |

If you're not ready to order yet, and won't be ready till around January, I could do it, and ship it to you. I'm busy until then.
Regular build updates by text
Full specs/blueprint sheet (several pages long)
Very high build quality
Think about it. |

I know several people around the upper pininsula of Michigan who ran Mofoco long blocks, no problems
I can't speak for jcs, but I was into a bug engine a few years ago...and there were two different brands of mains in it...had a gex stamp. Whether that was their doing or not I don't know, but from stories I have heard, questionable work seams to be frequent. :? |

| Portland where?, there's more than one and they are separated by a substantial amount of real estate. When shopping for an engine potential warranty work is always a consideration, do you want to pull it and ship it across the continent because it's making a tick? |

Hello,
I would love the opportunity to build you a longblock. I have built over 2000 engines personally(120+ in the last 12 months) and have only had one engine ever returned for warranty that I personally built. Please feel free to email me direct with any questions [email protected] |
