IIRC On the episode of Street Outlaws when they first got the bug, it actually started out as a nice car with a decent paintjob. Then they added the fake painted-on patina and broken up bumpers to make it look like crap on purpose. Maybe that was the HVWs loophole?

Didn't every VW start out as a nice car with a decent paint job?
My guess is that the Producers of that "reality" show convinced (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) them to feature a car from a current TV Program for whatever reasons. That's cool. Everybody is in it for the money. It was the blatant hypocrisy that bothered me.
It might not be a stretch for Car Show promoters to have a WIP category. But I don't see it ending well.

Isnt it the last Sac BOR anyway? Its too bad they couldnt be cool for the last one, ego is a MF!

Allowing major repair jobs to be displayed really helps those less experienced to better understand the process. It will "spark" some to take it on and warn off others to not get in over their heads. Dis-allowing this type of participation is a dis-service to the scene. No one likes getting Dis-ed. Car shows will morph or die out soon, the last one I went to the average age was like 80 and people were literally falling asleep in their lawn chairs by 10:30 am listing to the "old dogs" band playing 50's car tunes. The answer is to make every one feel welcome and bring the older and the younger folks together in the same show . But I digress...

Word at the show was no, they have a contract that extends further even though the land sold.

Got the separation panel patch from Gerson this weekend. It is for an earlier bus. It will be a challenge to adapt for my '63. I will hammer out those rib details and use the lower half of the patch around the spare tire.

Might be easier to replace the rib steel. It will be hard to shrink... Or maybe cut a slot in top of rib and then flatten and weld the seam. that should keep it straight.

Grate job Kurt! I'm watching your videos on Funky Truck and those T Wreck and samba threads trying to catch up some how-to's for me and it really is inspiring :)

Could you tell more about laser that you use for measurements while fitting the frame? Most people weld in some supports before they cut off things, but in your case it works without it... ;)

thanks

What a nice restoration job! :D

You have all my respect Kurt!

It's the first time I see a ''rotiserie'' like yours. (I'm not a pro)

I did restored a 1970 Chevrolet, I know what you are going through.

Congrats and don't give up!

I know this has been mentioned before but one more vote can't hurt.

I really really really really enjoy watching the videos of you working out solutions to the multitude of obstacles that make up the restoration of a vehicle this age. Especially because they are from the novice perspective (well after funky truck I suppose you have graduated from the novice to master but you can still see everything through novice eyes).

Please continue to post up the vids and I would pay to have a compilation from start to finish edited together.

Perhaps a crowdfunding campaign for a production company to come in so you don't have to deal with the tedium of camera set up and the post edit. Though you should stay in the directors/writers chair because your eye/sensibility and approach are what truly make the videos what they are.

I am living vicariously through your efforts until I can pursue my own restoration dreams. Thank you so much for sharing all that you have.

Just realised what I've been missing since Xmas!
Great to see you back at it Kurt.
Just as long as Funky Truck isn't getting jealous....

Any updates? Would love to see more!!!

Hi Kurt,

This is great - especially with getting the Funky gates finished as well....

When you get back to T Wrecks, could you post some pictures of the dollies for the rotisserie? About to start a SC restoration and am copying your rotisserie, the dollies look like a really useful addition.

Cheers!

Chris

Open question here...

Does anyone have any idea how Glideking builds these wooden stacks under his buses?

It doesn't appear that he has any special lifting equipment but I can't fathom how he does this without getting his bus precariously tilted in the process as he builds the layers. Perhaps that's exactly how it happens?!

I've studied the knots/marks/etc. on the wood pieces between the two pics (inset below) and it appears that he adds wood at the top:
