Maybe that's what I need is the 5.5mm line. I ordered the 5mm line from Bellmetric RHM5-Flennor Multi Fuel Hose (German and it's too tight, you have to force it on). I haven't used this stuff yet. I don't like the tight fit. Others may agree with me that tight fits are better for other circumstances... |

Charlie,
It's been a long time since I've had a tight fit but I do have to say that I think this fuel line and spring clamps are a winner. Here's some pics from today

Gary, I like the clamps!!! The line looks nice too, Honda 5.5mm ID, correct? Is there any price difference at a Honda dealership?? Or more expensive??
These young bucks here on Samba better enjoy a tight fit while they can and be glad their prostates still put out like they should, kinda like the new Pierburg fuel pump you got!!!!! |

Charlie,
I didn't price it at a Honda dealer. It could be motorcycle or even outboard engine fuel line. If you Google the part number it will bring up several sources where to purchase it.
The whole reason I'm trying this fuel line is because 5.5mm is the correct size and everyone is agreeing that the original braided type fuel line won't last with ethanol
I like the clamps too. They are 1/4 inch size |

Used this exact fuel line on my 69 Honda CB Super Sport from a local Honda dealer, stuff was in stock, along with the clamps.
I really like the line, very flexible and fits well on the bike carbs, I had thought a time or two about trying to use it on the bus, though I didn't know how it would handle the heat of an aircooled engine, but really to think about it, a motorcycle engine is an aircooled machine, I'll see if I can't find my scraps.
Also type 4 motors use the larger 7mm line correct? I can't remember at the moment.
Good share gentlemen. |

7mm may be correct for the T4 but I'm not sure. I use the Gates Barricade 5/16 fuel injection hose and it fits fine (for T4's) |

This is what I'm going to buy next time I need fuel line.
I've been using this for a couple of years on my bug and about a year on the westy with out any issues. I bought the fi clamps as well.

I didn't see the 4.5 mm line when I ordered. |

4.5 is too small. For carbureted engines you want 5.5mm |

Images are not viewable.
Would you please upload the images.
You are using this on a type 1 engine?
7mm for the type 4?
Thanks for sharing. |

Yes, VW used 7mm on the FI buses. 5/16 is about 7.3mm, which I think is well within the "acceptable and safe" tolerances for our application. Plus, you won't need lube getting it on……… Be careful, as many FLAPS stores sell Gates E15 hose in 5/16 that blatantly says "not for fuel injection use" on it, RIGHT KENT? :P

The Gates hose I bought just the other day for my wife's (carb'd) Mercedes has "not for fuel injection use" printed right on it, along with "50PSI". What's the working pressure of L-Jet, 30-35PSI?
I went that route because the "good quality German" braided hose I put on in December from the local import specialty shop started leaking right at the fuel pump, spraying two streams of gasoline right out through the braid... |
