What do you think of A-1's new exhaust system for the type 2? It is suppose to sit higher than the motor, and sells for $589.00 Raw and $689.00 coated and stainless steel is alot more. A-1 builds it to you're specs of you're motor, let me know what you think. Can be seen in the Gallery under deluxe busses.

I didn't know how to post a pic of it here, sorry

Thats alot of cash money imo

You can get a custom header from a shop for less. Im getting a stainless 1 5/8s sideways collector exhuast for $300 for my bus.

Any differences from one like that and one for a type 1?

well, as i see it, there are some pro's and cons to doing this! the good is that they will custum an exhaust system for you, and that it is well hidden! very nice looking for a show bus! the cons? well first you'll have to wipe off the rear cornner of your bus every time you drive it to keep the exhaust fumes from leaving any black soot! also, i've noticed that where they place the muffler, you couldn't have any heater bags.

What about a T4 exhaust in a Split window? Contact info, email?

Some what pricy, I knida need something that flow's really good and sits up really high, I'm running a 2110cc with IDA's. I've seen it in person and feel you pay for what you get, this is top notch quality.

$300 for the header, plus a stainless muffler will probaully get you close to 5 bills so 7 bills ain't so bad when it's not 1 5/8 it's custom sized to the spec's of you're motor. If I was gonna rat rod it I'd buy a Bugpack and be done with it...........7 bills get's you a quality header and a quality muffler and all hardware needed for the install.

Naw $300 max for me. Just gotta provide materials and that includes the stainless muffler. It pays to know the right people :D

Bryan S. Sun Apr 04, 2004 10:22 pm

True it pays to know people, Pat Down just built my motor AKA CB Performance:: 2110cc Dual 48 IDA Carbs and maybee a turbo, all in my single cab.

KombiMonster Sun Apr 04, 2004 10:31 pm

I bought one of Tiger`s (A-1s) systems for my 62 Convert and it`s a work of art. it has the Ren-Kafer muffler--polished stainless and 1 3/4 ceramic coated pipes --Large flange---clears rear apron-with no problem---Header mounts without having to bend pipes----Well worth the money---Bill

Looks very cool! Adlusting valves will mean taking the muffler off, no heater boxes might be a problem, expensive, And having the exhaust pointing down will mean blowing dirt and dust everywhere. But, it still looks killer.

Bryan67, I can't believe you were the first to note that adjusting the valves would be a pain in the arse. That was the problem with the tuck away exhaust for the bug or was it that the muffler went up in the fender well and melted peoples paint?

Bryan S. Mon Apr 05, 2004 11:56 am

I'm sure you could run a smaller muffler, but the blus bus is running a pretty big motor so..... and it's not like adj the valves is fun, well not for me anyway. And yes you have to undo 3 bolts to do the valves on one side.
