Thank you guys! I have been quite lazy on this project, but have been collecting sweet parts like original and aftermarket ribbed bumpers and digging usable pieces from my parts piles whenever I find them. :D
And I will be taking delivery of a new makeshift engine for this chassis next Monday. may have been a pretty stupid idea (as usual), but we'll see...will be back with pics next week ! :wink:

While this post is going to be useless as can be, but since some guys were asking. This bus ist still being dreamed about.....:lol:
Just got some sweet parts, maybe they can bring a little motivation to get going again ?
2 matching 3/54 3.50 16 wheels were found and saved by a friend from a local farmers milk crate wagon. Pretty beat up, but can be saved.

And a post 55 (4std) og rechromed DLX emblem. Sometimes it's all about getting parts when they become available.
BTW, 2 weeks ago I found my Petri wheel after I had misplaced it for 2 years! :D ( not og BD but same rim, spokes and hub dimensions).

oh, well, and even more important, I put whitewall rings on the front blackwall Firestones. :oops:
I can literally feel this project moving forward with speed of light... :wink:

Uhm.... well kind of.... :D

It's really embarassing, but the main problem here is that my (VW) buses are really just 'side projects'. Even typing that sounds stupid, which it probably is.
Both the Barndoor and the 55WB deserve to get much more attention, but I am also building a hemi powered 34 Ford roadster, doing a full blown (NOS body panel replacement) resto of my daily driver 1964 Taunus 17m P3 wagon, some custom work on my daily driver 61 bug, a few bikes and scooters, my full fendered 34 Ford sedan Hot rod needs some work before TÜV in May, 3 Flathead Ford V8s are disassembled for inspection, miscellaneous other engine builds, 2x 57 Ford wagons, a Lincoln, a 32 Chrysler ....some more VW projects ...and my 1941 house also always needs some work done... :roll:

I often wonder how car guys. or 'working class' people like all of us here, get mixed up with all these different projects, thinking that we will be able to finish some of it. It is so delusional, but SO MUCH FUN on the other hand!
I guess having a few registered, running and driving cars. The projects more or less become display toys, that don't need to be finished or driven.
That said, I totally miss driving an early T1, so I really may need to rearrange my priorities.... :oops:

Seeing the pics of Huettis finished 57 SC rolling to and back from HO certainly brings in some good motivation !:wink:

It is good to have enough Projects, imagine what would happen if you finished all your Cars and have nothing to dream??

The "finishing" (still little things todo) of my 57 after >10 Years also give me some fresh motivation, drive that Stuff is really fun after all that work, but unfortably it is to delicate for me...

Driving a fully restored car can be a mental menace. Especially if you have put in all the work yourself. You know about all the literally thousands of hours of work you have done and you certainly don't want to ruin any of that.
That said, hats off and much respect to you driving your show quality restored single cab for 2000kms in today's traffic, That is awesome !

I definitely need to feel the driving experience of a Transporter again. My 1964 Transit Fk1250 is a great bus and I am doing at least one 1200 - 2000km round trip each year, collecting parts, sleeping in the bus, visiting friends aso. So I have all the general 'bus' feeling and the early Ford Transit really has some benefits over a VW. More hp, larger sleeping/load area aso. But I definitely miss the 'cockpit' feel of the T1.
As nice as a T1 and especially a barndoor looks from the outside. my favorite place is behind the wheel and looking out the split front glass (no Safaris for me). No roof overhang on the BDs makes that even better.... 8)

very true !!! Many of my project cars I don't mind not finishing. The 53 Lincoln is a great display car to look at, I have drastically lowered it ( static purpose) and it looks great as is. It doesn't even have an engine right now, and I dream about how one day I am going to chop the top and build a mind blowing slippery Kustom car from it. I wouldn't mind if I never get to drive the car. it is an 'art' project and I love to have these very old cars around my place.

It's similar with all my Barndoor stuff. I love to look at the beauty of the original body parts, taillights, horn buttons and all that stuff in the cabinets, the stamped 29 numbers on the spare parts. There is a fascinating simple beauty in early Transporter parts.
But I still want to sit behind those split windshields and look at the roads and scenery, while stepping on the pedals and shifting through the whining gears... :D

Even if it's off topic, but here are some pics of the Linc. Born in 1953, so this is the middle of the barndoor era. :wink:

100% truth right there! I have always enjoyed driving my vehicles with bumps and bruises than the restored ones. Every scrape and rock chip hurts.

Glad to hear that you are well my brother. It has been sometime since you posted. I can't believe that this time last year, my bus was in transport to the port. How fast time flies!

I love the yard shots but it's obvious that they are not current photos. I think it's a bit colder this time of year. :lol: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Those yard pics were shot last summer and fall. At the moment it's not quite like California over here... :D
Unfortunately no snow so far, but freezing temps all the time.

My, how time flies! Jakob is busy working on his 57 SC....
