Lately, I have encountered potential buyers telling me, they will no longer participate in this crazy-high price atmosphere or even some just getting out of VWs all together.

you just said it....everything is expensive....everything. food, gas, lumber...it's all expensive.

I don't see how boycotting anything is going to help. it's a pay-to-play hobby. always was when you think about it.

you know what's going to happen if I boycott the oil man? I will freeze this winter. either pay, or go without.

so you mean to tell me those that are "getting out" are going to sell off stuff for pennies on the dollar? I doubt it. something tells me those guys will sell at the premium they are trying to "get out" from

does over 200K on a 36 HP count ? seemed like a general statement about not driving over 50 and scattering your engine with or without RB's :?:

More engine comments...

36hps are basically indestructible I think.
My old '55 Bus had over 100K on it, never rebuilt.
My old '54 Bus I found an engine in a dirty shack in the NM desert.
Changed oil, tuned it up, and ran it. No issues, even on a 1,000 mile trip. Slow though.
Going over 55mph in a 36hp small nut transmission Bus starts getting loud, the RPMs are really high...

I've never had any trouble going around 65mph (supposed top speed) for long periods in my '63 with a 1500cc but it has the '63-only rear end that is supposed to go 65mph. 55-60mph is better gas mileage though. Total engine mileage unknown, I've put over 33K on it myself as of last weekend

Dude you be on a roll. Yep, you boycott. Just gonna sit on the sidelines complaining. Only takes one to break from the herd for the boycott to be foiled. need a part. I'm gonna pay if I really need it NOW. Times change, prices change. Wife just bought me a semidress standard white Oxford shirt. $30. Picked it up and thought 25 years ago that was a $15 shirt. That $10000 split bug is now $30000+ don't like it? Find a cheaper hobby.

Why is this yet another variation of that well worn thread? You know the one I’m talking about. Just like clockwork here it is again. :D

I dunno you might have to be specific as there are a lot of similar threads in multiple forums.

I took the bulk of my toy collection to goodwill, along with a bunch of other trinkets. Because I didn’t want haggle online over the difference of $00.35 on a 10$ sale. Guys gettin older, realize their time left is more valuable than that.
Especially when people are too busy to leave good feedback or none at all.
I’ve seen a lot of good NOS parts go in the trash over the years. Two of my good friends in Maui died and no one could afford to house all of it. Two 40 yard dumpsters of parts gone to landfill. One of them were 100% NOS German parts packed full.

... well okay. Appreciate everyone's point of view - thanks.

Just happy, I don't live wherever you do - most staples are relatively inexpensive here in Oklahoma... food and gas anyway. have not purchased any lumber lately.
Anyway, thanks for your opinions

Them air coolers love the revs don’t they, they hate the lugging and to be overloaded. +1.000000 trouble free air cooled miles as of 10 years ago.

cool... seems we all have our methods... happy you have extra engines - I don't enjoy engine work, but do it out of necessity... yes, balance and blueprint is key.

guess you'll pass me on the road every time... i'm rarely in a rush... would rather go slower and have my engines last 40 years.

... is great that you love engine work - i'll feel safer when flying on American, then...

AWESOME... I like your method - mine is to never go over 50... don't even think of gas mileage in a VW. Our Vanagon with automatic used to get 16 mpg... Most air cooled VWs are not notorious for great MPG... My old CRX-HF got 63 most every time and my Ford van with Vanagon Westy interior and all the modern stuff like cruise and a/c gets 22 MPG all day long - what I love is that there are numerous ways to do everything... at 60 mph, youll pass me every time.

I do love it and like anything else it gets easier with practice. What slows me down now are the limitations of my body, call it age. :D

It makes me laugh everytime ppl complain about prices being high.

most everyone I know walk into a 7/11 or gas station store and pay top dollar for a soda or water that they could buy for 1/2 as much at a walmart or costco..

go to a movie and pay $10+ for a ticket and $5 popcorn as opposed to $1.50 redbox and microwave popcorn...

ppl piss money away everywhere without even thinking about it.

when I value a car or a part, I look at how much life is left in it? how much would it be new (IF it were avail new)? Can I make it myself for that much?

same with selling...If it has life left in it, it has money left in it.

If you see a price that's not for you..move along...you do it in the grocery stores, clothes stores...

If you like what you see and want it..pay the price and be happy.

none of you walk into that 7/11 and ask to buy that soda for less...

As mostly a parts buyer, I got into the hobby in the 00's for fun in my early 20s. Now in my 40s, I am dumping all my cash into my home or my 401k accounts. That plus wage stagnation (despite increasing living expenses) results in virtually none of my cash going into my car hobby except the bare minimum to keep something running for the occasional shits and giggles.

I don't think I have even looked at TheSamba classified for specific parts in over a year.
