I just got a sand rail with dual IDA 48 carbs my questions are, Is this linkage right I have not seen any run behind the dog house before and is there a way to tell how old the carbs are?

It could be made to work better, but traditionally it is usually on other side of fan shroud..... Sort of looks like PO didn't understand to move linkage components on carb shafts to other side of carbs.. And put linkage out back....

you have old Italian weber carbs.
Your accelerator cable is all jacked up and hobbled together. You need to fab up a new cable system and possibly new linkage. |

Thanks Dale, I am going to move the linkage to the other side to give me more room for the throttle cable. |

When I move the linkage to the other side of the dog house I will sort out the throttle cable.
The Italian Weber carbs are better from what I have read is this correct? |

Better than what? The Chinese copies, why of course. Are the old Italian better than the Weber's made in Spain, I do not think so, purist might.
For a cable you should consider something like the CB shielded cable or have one made, since you have a rail this will provide support, routing and smooth operation.
As to where the linkage is that would not be an issue if you had a shielded cable plus it un-clutters the face of the engine. |

Yes, I was referring to the Chinese carbs. I will be adding a new shielded cable and I have made a bolt that will clamp the cable so the big clamp will be gone.. |
