Anyone know shops with a good parts selection for type 1 motors in Portland Oregon?

I see Johnnylawmotors but can’t find feedback.

Hope it’s okay to ask here...

Halsey Automotive,
Discount Auto Parts,
Avery's Aircooled,
Always VW.

Otherwise look on line for parts.
Good Luck.

Yep - Discount Import Parts in Milwaukie, Halsey on . . . Halsey, and Always on 50th in SE are the ones.

Well there isn’t a Vw shop at home (Ketchikan alaska) so it would be nice to see what one looks like. I went to one when I was 12 in Orange County California but of course I didn’t know what I was looking for.

Building a 2275 so I need a few parts. I typically deal with one awesome online company but I would like to see the newest hpmx 44. There’s a possibility that I would like to see what a D series carb looks like. They appear to have a issue with them that might be easy to spot if I can get my hands on one. I also need thing ball joints, a whole list of things I would like to see before I buy. I still need window regulators for example, I bought 2 sets from different vendors that aren’t correct. Had I have seen them I would have known they’re wrong.

I’m from a small town in Alaska and havent got to experience things that lower 48 people just take for granted. Things like Vw shops, indoor gun ranges, heck a gun shop would be cool to see... all sorts of stuff lol.

OK, I understand now. You want some eye candy 8) keep in mind a lot of stuff is kept in back so you need to call for specific parts you interested in. I use all the places listed above for different reasons.
Skip Halsey import parts (Not a lot to look at but have a very good inventory) unless they have a part you need or you happen to be in the area.

Discount Import Parts in Oak Grove ,OR (Portland suburb) will
have an aisle of repop accessories and bits to look at. They have a case with some carbs to look at as well probably has the HPMX. There is an excellent gun shop nearby called Northwest Armory.

To look at new repop and Old OEM stuff Always Vdub will be the best. Ashley (owner) might have the correct window regulators. It’s 15 minutes from Discount Imports.

Now if you can drive 45 min north of Portland to Avery’s. You might get lucky and have Jason give you a tour of the containers full of original VW parts in back. Lots of new repop and OEM stuff to look inside the shop as well. Also might have window regulator.

This is Avery’s. Notice all they grey containers in the background

And if you in Portland on a Monday night. Swing by here for a beer

Ha! My pile is in that pic. 8) But it's real hard to see.

Everything Xevin said is true about the local VW shops here.
Sadly the offerings of good VW shops have moved to online sales.

Anyone remember Autosport International in Vancouver? That was a great shop with tons of stuff to look at. They have some remnant of their past glory. In online sales.

Is there a surf shop up there? Think I used to have a shirt from a shop up there in Alaska.

Here’s the real gold in Portland. The people that we know locally that have a stash of blue boxes in their basement  We are fortunate to have shops to grab something off the shelf as well, and a large community of ACVW folks. Most aren’t on The Samba. Hard to believe I haven’t met 67rustavenger, yet we’ve walked by each other at events and communicate via PM. But that’s about to change 8)

Not really in Ketchikan. There’s a hippy that owns a lock and key shop that use to have some surfing stuff. We’re on a channel so waves aren’t big here. Plus the water is cold. Lately I’ve seen guys paddling on boards like they’re on a kayak you stand on.

Cool thanks for the answers! I work for a company that sucks to travel for. They are very last minute. Everything is paid for at least and they get a rental car with unlimited mileage. Last time I was in Portland we drove to Yellowstone one morning after work (I was working graveyard) so that was cool.
