I have a 1970 bug my plans are a kubota d722 3cyl diesel my main concern is adapting the vw flywheel to the kubota I'm a welder / machinist by trade .has anyone tryed this any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, this will be the most underpowered bug on the planet. I doubt anyone has tried this, as a non turbo 20hp/33ft/lb diesel won't let you get into 4th gear and maybe not even 3rd. I agree it's a neat little motor with the emphasis on little, but why? Because you're sitting on one?

Is the rotation correct?

sure is a strange idea, yet you aren't the first, nor the second.

It'll definitely improve the fuel mileage, but it may take a while to get anywhere.

Most of those have a flat flywheel, you'll have to machine a standoff spacer ring for the VW pressure plate and drill the flywheel for the bolts, after that it's making a plate to adapt the bellhousing bolt patterns. Not impossible if you know how to lay out and drill accurate holes.

Rotates the wrong way too...

18 hp @ 3600 rpm might get you around the neighborhood, but you'd probably be happier with the 50 hp and simplicity of a bone stock 1600.

It'd definitely be different

The V1505T is probably a better Kubota engine for the job. 1500cc, 78x78, 50 HP and a decent amount of TQ. Can't remember the exact specifics...
